Marine veteran Jon Hammar Jr., who was arrested on a dubious weapon charge in August was released today from the notorious CEDES prison, according to his attorney.

Eddie Varon-Levy said he and Hammar Jr. are currently at the Matamoros, Mexico-Brownsville, Texas border crossing where he was arrested Aug. 13, waiting to be processed to proceed across the bridge that spans the Rio Grande River.

Hammar Jr., is expected to be reunited with his father, who immediately flew to Brownsville this morning after learning from Varon-Levy that a judge in Mexico had dropped the felony charge because of a civil rights violation of Mexican federal law.

We could have offered to release a couple of million Mexican illegals from peonage in the USA ~ and offered to send them back home to their loved ones right now ~ and Jon would have been outta’ there DAY 1.

Indeed, some good news.

Thank you Fox News, and the senators and congresswoman from Florida that worked to release him.

I suspect the Mexican gov’t paid off the cartel to get them to release him. And who knows, the Obama regime may have paid the Mexican gov’t to facilitate this. I’m seeing payoffs.

I agree, good news for sure. But, I am curious as to why the dude was taking an old bolt action 410 to Costa Rica so to hunt. What was he going to hunt, big butterflies? Like I said, just curious. Seems kinda dumb to me.

Thats a relief

In about 1973 I was with a group of buddies, girls and guys at Rosarito beach partying late at nite and got robbed/fined by Federales, they shot our friend Herb(in army at the time) in the gut and we rushed him across the border rammed through the stick and got pulled over by the CHP told him the story and he led us to the hospital red lights and siren escort . Herb is a quad now.

Havent been back to Baja since

“And who knows, the Obama regime may have paid the Mexican gov’t to facilitate this.”

Judging from barry’s utter disdain for anything military, I highly doubt it.

I can not blame Mexico for this entire series of events. That they selectively enforce their laws isn’t shocking - we do it every day, though typically we look the other way when a visitor or illegal is committing a crime. That their justice system is corrupt and as slow as possible, yep. That most of this would have gone away with the proper bribes - yep.

But whom I do blame is the US Customs officer who inspected, photographed and documented this firearm. There is no way I’d EVER believe that they had no knowledge of the firearms laws in Mexico and the tragedy that was about to unfold. The US citizen should have been told to turn the RV around, head into town, find a local gun shop to either hold onto the firearm until they return, or arrange shipment back home.

Letting them continue on their border crossing was absolutely going to end badly, with at least one US citizen in prison.

And yes, they were idiots for not researching this themselves, and probably even dumber for openly declaring a firearm anyway. But there was one moment when that firearm was out in the open, being inspected, in front of someone familiar with the laws of Mexico, who certainly had the authority to stop this tragedy before it happened, and that was the US Customs inspector who documented the firearm.

I certainly hope that the family has already filed a lawsuit against customs and am sorry that I’ll likely end up paying the judgment as a taxpayer.

I believe it was handed down to him by his grandfather and was on a sentimental trip.
