Ocotillo Wind Project - Pattern Energy - Dec 19, 2012 No Wind

This was a huge California BLM land grab. Much protest by local indian tribes and local residents to no avail. The desert was horribly disturbed and raped for this hundred million dollar boondoggle. The wind is seasonal there and even after a storm has moved through these ugly things are sitting still.

This past summer I drove from Fort Worth to Midland for a business trip. I remember seeing what seemed to be THOUSANDS of wind turbines from around Sweetwater all the way to Big Spring on both sides of Interstate 20 as far as the eye could see.

I estimated that maybe 1 - 2 percent of all those turbines were actually turning. All the rest stood motionless. Don’t know if it was just weak wind flows moving in very specific channels or if the unmoving ones were inoperable for some reason or another.

Looked to me like just another “green energy” waste of money.

Wow! I didn't know windmills had after burners! Those ones must be really powerful.

A wind farm is something like a large urban school. No matter how much money is invested in it, it won’t work.

Line up all the tree huggers in front of the windmills and ...

Put your lips together and blow.

Mention of Ocotillo brings back good memories from when I was stationed at MCRD San Diego in the 70s. Used to go out to the high desert and shoot ground squirrels and jack rabbits.

Come back in 500 years and the ruts will still be there.

Run some heavy animals through there every few years and that would change dramatically, particularly with trace minerals in the salt blocks and seeding with desert Stipa.

Yeah, unfortunately they built this thing on my prime shooting spot. Will be looking at closer to the border now. Which of course makes it more fun with potential illegals.
Hard to find good shooting spots on BLM land around here.

Not sure why this was posted twice six/tenths of a second later.

Uh...pretty sure those last two digits are seconds not tenths of seconds.

Even when they are turning they might not be producing.
They could just be in low level turning without the generator clutch engaged.
Who knows how much they really are producing - have to read the gages
