ABC News: ‘Unlikely’ Assault Weapons Ban Would Have Stopped Sandy Hook

Today, ABC News finally reported the blindingly obvious fact that Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s beloved assault weapons ban – a piece of legislation now favored by President Obama – would not have prevented the Sandy Hook shootings. Here’s what they said:

It's impossible to say for sure, but it seems unlikely that if the law were still in place, as it was written, it could have done much to prevent Friday's tragedy. Lanza's primary weapon, the Bushmaster .223 rifle, is a type of AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, certain models of which were prohibited from being sold under the ban, but the Bushmaster model used by Lanza was not on that list.

Additionally, the language in the law was loose enough that a gun enthusiast who was interested in adding a type of AR-15 to their collection could have purchased one legally.

In fact, ABC News even admitted that the assault weapons ban passed by Congress in 1994 didn’t work in the first place:

If he locked himself in a classroom he could have killed quite a few. That dude in China stabbed over twenty kids. Don't know if any died though.

If the extreme of the total disarming of the civilian population works, how do you explain the 40,000+ murders a year in Mexico?

Almost "nobody" owns guns in Mexico (legally). Somehow, mass murder and mayhem of innocents are off the charts!

As a mother do we want to see men in the schools with guns, er guns have bene around for hundreds of years with kids.Or having teachers with guns.

Maybe if she stopped drying her boy at aged 7 and giving him a bath and have him grow up a little and stop moaing about easy bake overns for her boy then perharps the kid will be ready for the world .

The other guy came up with a great response, he mentioned out in WA where the shooter shot two people , gun jammed and a shopper wiht a gun pointed it at the shooter and then the shooter quickly shot himself.
