Happy Clinton Impeachment Day 2012! Impeachment is Forever!
Wednesday, December 19, 2012 | Kristinn

Posted on 12/19/2012 5:33:26 AM PST by kristinn

It's been 14 years since President Bill Clinton was impeached. Free Republic played a key role.

On October 31, 1998, Free Republic held the first online-organized national protest to call for Clinton's impeachment and removal from office. The rally was broadcast live on C-SPAN for over four hours. Speakers included a who's who of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

The rally can be viewed in its entirety online at C-SPAN

As the Senate trial drew to a close in Feburary 1999, FReepers came together online to design and fund a full page ad in the Washington Times urging the Senate to do its Constitutional duty by convicting and removing Clinton for committing perjury and obstruction of justice in office.

Thanks to Varmint Al for hosting the ad online..

I loved that photo the moment I saw it on Impeachment Day. You can just see all the little gears spinning in their heads. Slick looks just like some fifth-grade bully steaming over some slight, plotting his revenge. Hillary’s skipping along cheerily telling him the Republicans don’t have a legal leg to stand on, being hopeful all the while that she herself could somehow end up as president as a result of the impeachment. Gore’s giddy with anticipation. You can even see (or am I imagining these things?) Gephart running through his political calculations. It is a GREAT photo and doesn’t cast that crew in a very good light, imo. That’s why I knew it’d quickly be scrubbed from the internet (and it was within weeks) and that I’d better snag it!

Glad you saved it. I know I have never seen it before so it must have been scrubbed in record time.

We can have great fun with that pic. It deserves to be a post of it’s own. Caption this picture of Slick Willy going down!

December 19,1998, the 105th Congress approved two articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton.

Photoshop folks can dub the apparent thoughts. LOL!

Kristinn, thank you for reminding us of the role of Free Republic in the Clinton impeachment.

Every form of communication has its pros and cons. However, it is a matter of historical fact that Free Republic not only helped get Clinton impeached but also managed to destroy the efforts of 60 Minutes to destroy George W. Bush. If that isn't positive proof of the power of “crowdsourcing,” I don't know what is.

Let me give an example of how I promote the effectiveness of Free Republic in places where it's not known.

In my ecclesiastical world, there are still significant numbers of important people who think internet discussions are wastes of time that accomplish very little and reach very few people. Those statements tend to come people in their fifties or sixties or older who are in two categories:

1) pastors of large churches who aren't very computer-literate, who still write in longhand or use secretaries for dictation, and who have staff members doing research for them rather than using the internet regularly, or

2) professors in colleges or seminaries with major reputations as well-known authors but who don't like the personal bitterness and lack of factual accuracy in lots of things posted online.

Despite their aversion to the internet, these people are generally solid conservatives both theologically and politically. When I hear people saying such things, I cite Free Republic and several other conservative and liberal websites as examples of how internet discussions make a major difference.

It's pretty hard to argue that Free Republic was not a key factor in the Clinton impeachment and exposing 60 Minutes’ effort based on forged documents to claim Bush had gone AWOL. That's serious impact, in my view.

Free Republic changed history twice on major issues. It's done so in many other lesser-known ways as well.

No means of communication is perfect, but let's be thankful the internet has made it possible for “little guys” to take on the big dogs.

our current potus must not be impeached.

That would lend credibility to him.

he must be found ineligible and arrested for fraud so all of his works can be flushed down the pipe where they belong.

the new potus must immediately fire and remove all czars, regulations, new departments, healthcare abominations, tax regulations among all of the other things I cannot remember right now.

If he is found ineligible would McCain be found the potus since he was first deprived?

LOL!!!

I'll bet he actually did utter that curse many times. FR really was a big thorn in his side and I credit it (and Jim Rob) with having more to do with his impeachment than any other single entity in the entire country, including Drudge.

if he is ineligible the entire ticket is invalid so biden would go to.

Congress set the rules of successions...last done in 1947.

Those rules don’t address a ticket being ineligible, only the President (or VP or Speaker or President pro tem of the Senate, etc down the line)

If you have a source that says otherwise, please post it. I don’t mind being corrected.

Impeachment may be “forever”, but it was rejected by what is now known a “low-information voters”. And there are more low-information voters now than there probably was back in 1998.
