With the shock and horror from Newtown giving way to anger and calls for action, President Barack Obama will announce his first concrete steps Wednesday in addressing the raging debate about gun policy.
Obama is expected to announce that Vice President Joe Biden will lead an inter-agency process to develop policy in the wake of the Connecticut elementary school massacre.
White House aides say Obama won't announce major policy decisions Wednesday, but will outline his administration's path forward.
"These tragedies must end. And to end them, we must change," Obama told a packed auditorium at Newtown High School on Sunday.

Yes, we must change. We must give out the combos to our gun safes to anyone. Hell, let’s just leave the safes open. And of course, we should leave our guns in the open in our unlocked cars. Is that what he has in mind?
Bad guys don’t go thru the same process we law-abiding citizens do to procure our self defense weapons. If a bad guy wants a gun, he will KILL someone to get it.

Obama has to get this done before the bodies turn cold.
The PTB think their lives are invaluable, and thus they are allowed to protect their own lives and the lives of their loved ones. However, they do not think that our lives — we, The People — have any value at all; thus they see no reason why our lives should be the subject of protection.
However, knee-jerk reactions to tragedy, and worse, using tragedy to score political points, is not the right course.

The liberals and their president have failed. There have been far more mass shootings under “his watch” than any other administration. Various cities around the country have become war zones. Over 2000 guns were given to criminals. A jihadist infiltrated our military and murdered troops on American soil. Instead of laying out a policy, he should resign.
Good point, but no one in the media and certainly not among the dirty 'Rats will admit this. Just look at Obama's "hometown", Chicago. I am guessing that after a couple or few nights there, the death total from the CT tragedy will have been exceeded. Things there are so bad that Godfather Rahm is going on TV begging the gangbangers to "leave the children alone". And there are dozens more places like it, Detroit, south LA, Miami, Washington. If Obama wants to control guns, start in those places. He can go out and beg the gangbangers to give up their guns to their homeboy.

This is the poison fruit of the left’s decades long war on American values and morality. The problem is not guns. The problem is our societal glorification of violence and death. We need to recover love of life and respect for human beings in the society, and teach such things in schools.
Our societal nihilism is what leads to these attacks.
American children are fed a daily diet of violence from early childhood on. A non-stop feed of gratuitous, mindless violence on television, in movies, on the internet, and particularly video games, dehumanizes and desensitizes. How many open chest cavities do we need to see on CSI or Law and Order? Hollywood, the music industry, the lack of morality and virture, the breakdown of the family and a reckless abandonment of the mentally ill. In the late 20th century, psychiatric hospitals got a very bad name; the left decided the mental institutions were wrong, cruel. Institutionalizing someone became “the bogey man.”
These hospitals were closed, and we basically tossed our mentally ill onto the street. We medicated them and then threw them to the wolves. Now we’re raising a generation of mentally ill children, with limited mental health resources and a system whose hands are tied until AFTER the tragedy happens.
Outlawing guns will not deter criminals, who will not hesitate to obtain illegal guns. It will just render the populace more defenseless.

Its always foolish to legislate based on emotion which is why democRATS come up with such stupid and counter-productive policies.
The Left should propose:
1. Background checks on anyone applying for a driver's license. Said license to be summarily denied if the applicant (or any of his immediate family members) has any history of violent rages, mood disorders, or use of mood-altering drugs.
2. A 7-day "cooling-off period" when trying to rent a car. (You can sleep on the floor in front of the airport rental agency while you wait.)
3. A ban on "automatic" (i.e., equipped with automatic gear transmission) and "assault" vehicles (i.e., any vehicle with more than 2 horsepower).
4. A 1-gallon limit to the amount of fuel you can buy in one 24-hour period. (The Government knows what's best for you, and no one should really need to drive that much, anyway.)
5. Car-free zones in a 2-mile radius around bars, liquor stores, etc.
6. A ban on "Saturday Night Specials" (vehicles costing less than, say, $50,000).
This stuff just writes itself, doesn't it? At last: Now I know how Liberals think!

While the media is in full press mode, it's the same old small number of the same old people using the tragedy to call for the same old "gun control" "solutions" - they think that this time there will be a groundswell of popular opinion and that this will be a tipping point for their side.
There is no groundswell, people hear the news about "violence" in their cities and know that "gun control" is not the answer and not going to do anything well armed and protected hypocritical politicians and media "superstars" tell them about guns. Guns and ammo sales are the best prof of that.
Actually, it's great that they might spend next two years talking about gun control and violence, and that they will enlist so-called "conservative Democrats" like Harry Reid and others to "come out" in favor of gun control - this will strip any pretense during 2014 mid-term elections, and they'll be voted out of the office in the conservative districts and states.
The issue has been a loser for them, more so in recent years than before, and there is no government "giveaways" here, just government restrictions. There is a reason why they stayed awsy from this theme, but now Obama and Feinstein will drag them back into the swamp of "gun control" and the "conservative, pro-gun" Democrats may not be able to get out of it scot-free this time.
I'd love for them to keep having this "discussion" (and of mental illness, OTC or over-prescribed drugs, gory violence in the games, rap/hip-hop songs and Hollywood movies content, etc.) for the next two years while people are having to deal with the consequences of ObamaCare, taxes, regulations and mandates and failed economic and foreign policy.
This is great development - bring it on!
