Bushmaster Rifle Prices Rise After Connecticut Shooting

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) – Sen. Diane Feinstein is among those calling for more gun control as demand for bushmaster assault rifles skyrocket.

The price for a bushmaster has gone up by as much as 50 percent since Friday. The AR-15 assault rifle is the most popular style of rifle to buy, usually used for target practice or hunting small game. But, it was also a killer’s weapon of choice to gun down 26 people in Connecticut.

Now gun shop owners say it will cost a lot more. The AR-15 is now in the crosshairs of people calling for more gun control.

“Everything that seems to be done politically just increases demand,” gun owner Bob Raetz said.

The owner of Discount Shooter Supply in Roseville says since Friday’s massacre more and more people are coming out to buy it, driving the prices up.

“The price of these is going to go up at least 25 percent, and the parts are going up 50 percent. So, to build a rifle, it’ll cost 50 percent more as early as next year,” owner Rob Frates said.

Frates says AR-15s are usually built to the owner’s specifications, and many of the parts are already selling out online.

Frates says the price jump is a run on guns fueled by fear these rifles will soon be illegal.

“It’s a common reaction and I don’t think any gun owner believes it was the gun’s fault,” said Raetz.

Unlike handguns, Frates says you don’t need to register each long gun you own with a serial number.

“Currently, you can purchase as many of these as you wish. There’s only one form to fill out,” said Frates.

But he says come next year, that will change with legislation that was already in place.

“Each one of these will now cost $25 to register,” said Frates.

Meanwhile, some gun owners aren’t taking any chances and are stocking up now before it’s too late.

“They’ll make them harder to get perhaps, but California is already very restrictive,” said Raetz.

Frates believes the prices will just continue to rise as more and more people keep buying up all the guns and ammunition.

People are right to stock up now, things may well get very hairy in the near future. It is better to be prepared than not to be.

So California is now going to require registering long guns?

What a bunch of perverted twisted Marxists.

From the comments I've read on other forums, from people who work in the firearms business, the major distributors are either impossible to get through to by phone or returning e-mails with a "Sorry, we'll respond ASAP, we're just really, really, really busy.." automated messages. Davidsons, one of the wholesalers that bought out Ruger's entire 2012 production earlier this year, moved in excess of $2.5 Million (IIRC) of merchandise over the weekend.

It's not just Bushmaster, *every* semi-auto rifle that could possibly be impacted by this mess is going up in price. Pretty soon, Mini-14s will be bringing the same prices that ARs did last week. I'll bet we see $500 SKS carbines again very soon.

I am glad I already have my Stag Model 8. Just ordered 1200 rounds of IMI855. Ammo prices will soon skyrocket.

Yep. A co-worker of mine has been trying to decide on an AR for two months now. Last Tuesday, we hit a local shop that had one he liked, but he thought it was $200 too high. Bet it's either gone now, or at least another $200 higher in price.

After the Oregon mall incident, I told him to quit farting around and go get it. I'll bet he didn't.

Sorry bub, but ya’ll just ain’t keepin up.

I have video of the pump shotgun being pulled out of the trunk of Lanza’s car and a cop ejecting the shells into the trunk.

“The three weapons found near his dead body were the semiautomatic .223-caliber rifle made by Bushmaster and two handguns made by Glock and Sig Sauer.

A shotgun was found in his car nearby, according to Connecticut State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance.”

Based on my vid and the coroner’s presser I’d have to say that description of the weapons used is true.

But, it was also a killer’s weapon of choice to gun down 26 people in Connecticut.

Actually, the killer's weapon of choice was a batttleship-mounted 16-inch gun.

But he didn't use that on his victims, either.

I buy parts from them all the time. Great family owned company to do business with. Their ammo is on the higher side, and I live close to Wideners and can pick stuff up in person.

I was surprised to see that CheaperThanDirt has pulled their firearms category from their Internet website! They're still selling ammo ... reasoning with liberal think, bullets kill people, not guns, right?
