Can the Republican Party Remain Relevant?
American Thinker ^ | December 17, 2012 | Steve McCann

Does the Republican Party want to remain relevant? Or are they willing to be cast, by the not so subtle scorched earth tactics of Barack Obama, the Democrats and the mainstream media, into permanent second class status, and eventual oblivion?

The only political weapon, but a potentially powerful one, the Republicans have is control of the House of Representatives. The Speaker of the House thus becomes, by default, the national spokesman and face of the Party. This person is the one sitting alone across the table from the twin juggernaut of Barack Obama and his celebrity persona and the sycophantic mainstream media, with their predisposition against all things conservative.

It is extraordinarily difficult to hold one's own against this two-headed dragon. However, if the United States is to regain its once lofty economic and societal stature, there is no choice as there must be a guerilla action over the next four years to delay and stop Obama's plans to transform America. This requires a Speaker of the House with a persona that is not overshadowed by the President, who is unafraid to take on the media and is able to coordinate messaging with not only Republican House members but other conservative voices. But above all, a Speaker willing to confront Barack Obama directly and forcefully.

The current Speaker, John Boehner, while a decent man and a hard working representative for his district in Ohio, is not the right person for the job at this critical juncture in American history. In a cogent and insightful analysis of Mr. Boehner, Peter Ferrara writes:

Boehner is no match for Obama on the national stage. He cannot press the economic arguments articulately. He does not have a compelling personality. Obama is running circles around Boehner with outrageous falsehoods, and Boehner cannot raise a...

Boehner faithfully represents the real GOP, which has become a liberal party.

I disagree. Strongly.

The GOP must start fighting strongly for American jobs.

Looks at voting trends. We have been losing votes, for 20 years.

BRING BACK AMERICAN JOBS.

Now.

Can the Republican Party Remain Relevant?

Not as long a Boehner is speaker of the house and all the GOP representatives in the house are without a spine.

Boehner has managed to allow Obama to turn the Bush middle class tax cuts passed by a Republican majority Congress ten years ago into the Obama middle class tax cuts, supposedly opposed by the House majority Republicans.”

In late 2008 I was warning here to get rid of this guy, and then two years ago it was impossible to do because of the automatic R win. My guess is that no one wants his job now.

Not only is Bohner no good at fighting by getting messages out but he is incapable of leading the Rs as a team to beat Dems, But he has shown he is capable of giving in each time after each battle is lost, signing the surrender at each end.

Watch Dems, They pick their battles to get the public on their side against Republicans and then stick together, and beat the crap out of them. And some are strategic paying off after the next election,

So Obama gave in on tax cut extensions 2 years ago (prior lame duck), big victory?? Now being re-elected he can make it into a fight and get Rs blamed for anything wrong. That wasnt possible two years ago.

Is freedom relevant anymore?

What about fiscal responsibility?

What about the family as a unit of our society?

What about free enterprise?

The Republican Party has become milk fed ever since Ronald Reagan was president and it has consistently gone DOWN HILL (Rapidly) since.

What remains is Milk Toast, and a spineless voter base looking for simple answers that don't require hard decisions on their part or commitment to principals of any nature.

In other words, they have become the spineless reflection of the Democratic Party.

What you all don’t understand is that the game is over. The moochers, looters and inner city tribal parasites outnumber the producers. You cannot beat Santa Claus. You are under the delusion that if we just had an articulate, dynamic conservative that could sway the sheeple with logic, reason and facts, we could start winning elections again. It’s too late. After decades of liberal infiltration and domination of the educational system, mass media and Hollywood, the frog has been boiled. We are surrounded by Marxist zombies who see nothing wrong with using the government as an agent of force to confiscate our wealth to subsidize their failed social engineering schemes. We have gone from the land of the free and the home of the brave to the land of the free stuff and the home of the depraved.

Good line. Good rant. Thanks for the post -- but I think you're a bit premature with the eulogy, the elegy, and the embalming job. The American People ain't dead yet.
