National Cathedral dean: ‘. . . the gun lobby is no match for the cross lobby’

For the Very Rev. Gary Hall, tenth dean of the Washington National Cathedral, the Connecticut killings are the last straw in the debate about gun control.

At two worship services Sunday, Hall appealed to worshipers to help lawmakers pass legislation that would limit access to weapons. The Episcopal Church has advocated gun control for many years.

“Why do we as a society tolerate these massacres in increasing numbers?” Hall said. What does it say about us as a community of human beings that we are willing to put our children, not to mention their teachers, in so much jeopardy? ... What are we, as people of faith, to do?”

Hall called on the nation to address gun violence, urging faith communities to take the lead in pushing for effective gun-control measures, particularly access to assault weapons. He called on people across religious traditions to “serve as a counterweight to the gun lobby.”

“Enough is enough,” Hall said. “As followers of Jesus, we have the moral obligation to stand for and with the victims of violence and to work to end it. We have tolerated school shootings, mall shootings, theater shootings, sniper shootings, workplace shootings, temple and church shootings, urban neighborhood shootings for far too long.”

At the 11:15 a.m. sermon, worshipers interrupted Hall with applause. At the 8:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services Sunday, many worshipers rose for a standing ovation after Hall’s sermon.

“I believe the gun lobby is no match for the cross lobby,” Hall said.

A solidly pro-abortion crowd gives a leftist in cloth a standing O.

For them, life begins at six, at least.

Dare he address the holder of the gun inflicting the carnage? No, that would mean infringing on a civil right to be evil. But somehow it is okay to infringe on my civil and constitutional right to simply possess a gun.

“As followers of Jesus, we have the duty to disarm ourselves so that thugs and tyrants can do as they please?”

What Bible verse is THAT from???

Oh wait - it is the Episcopal Church.

The religious arm of the democrat party.

And a dying church...

All of the most massive mass murders in history have been committed by governments that have disarmed their people.

The badge of a police officer, does not protect you from any weapon carried by that police officer.

Instead, that police officer’s respect for the responsibility of carrying and lawfully using any weapon, achieved thru *both*

1) a desire to be, and remain, disciplined about keeping and bearing Arms

2) practicing and training in the discipline of keeping and bearing Arms

That is no different, than the same discipline and duties of all of us.

Young people especially, but all who have missed the opportunity, should *learn* how to practice good and safe weapons discipline.

Human responsible agency, is the key.

Being responsible takes both good instruction (many of us were lucky to get that from one of our parents), and a continuation of the discipline.

We pay for police officers to remain in practice.

We fail in each state, to pay for mustering the militia, county by county, to also drill ... *and set an example.*

In so many inner city communities where young men and women are without access to good instruction, the cities, the counties, the states ... and the N.R.A. ... should step in to provide it, to require it.

Yes, the N.R.A. does provide a lot of training, but we need to get to the roots of communities where the kids are without weapons disclipline.

Emphasize, that “these weapons, firearms or not, are for our use in defending against attacks.”

That has to be in “the media.”

I think I am still technically a member of a UCC Church. Another one of the religions arms of the Dem party. They have only been around since the 1950’s or so and lost something like half their members. Obama belonged to/attend a UCC Church before becoming POTUS.

I have not attend a service in years, simply for the many of them closely resemble liberal country clubs where they preach feel good liberal talking points, not scripture.

I’m with you Rev. Gary. Why stop at guns? Americans killed by drunk driving in 2010 - 10,228

Where are the calls for prohibition of alcohol round 2?

How about abortion? The numbers are staggering.

You can play that game all day and start with Hollyweird and the constant death-porn they pump out of their sewage dump.

"“Why do we as a society tolerate these massacres in increasing numbers?” "

The Episcopal Church is all hunky-dory with murdering millions of babies each year.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity_and_abortion#The_Episcopal_Church

The Episcopal Church

The Episcopal Church in the United States of America has taken a pro-choice stand and has passed resolutions at its triannual General Convention that supports abortion rights, but believes it should be used "only in extreme scenarios." The church opposes any government action that limits abortion rights, including parental notification.[40] The ECUSA also condemns violence against abortion clinics.[40] The Church does express opposition to "abortion as a means of birth control, family planning, sex selection, or any reason of mere convenience."

The greatest cause of unnatural (violent) death in the last 100 yeard has been citizens killed by their own leftist governments. Estimates vary, but 150 million seems to be the median estimate from my observations. Those doing the killing claimed to be “for the poor” just like right now. Bam-bam’s friend Billy Ayres talked to the communist chinese and they told him he would need to kill 25 million to get his goal of communism in the USA to work. That was about 10% at the time. Now 10% would be over 30 million. Fast and Furious shows 0bama does not care about human life. Orchestrated crisis is only just starting.

Oh you can’t add abortion to the list because according to liberals, its OK to murder your babies as long as its the mother doing the killing. Remember, abortion is a “right”
