Medal of Honor recipient, a True American hero, not like some who are anointed by the media.

Senator Inouye was indeed an authentic American hero, he received a Distinguished Service Cross for acts of valor while serving in a famous Japanese-American Regiment (442d Infantry Regiment) in Europe in World War II. However, his receipt of the Medal of Honor was a political act enacted in recent years to honor him and many fellow vets of the 442d in atonenment of our treatment of Japanese American citizens during the war. He certainly deserved the DSC, the MoH, doubtful. One result of this political theater was that the 442d Infantry, by a stroke of the pen, laid claim to more Medals of Honor amongst its ranks than any other American Regiment in history.

So what. These pols should not be elevated to the status of demigods, and we should stop honoring them because it just feeds their already immense egos. We need term limits now more than ever.

To me it says “Soviet Union.”

Once one is an apparatchik at the top, the only way out is feet first.

My understanding is that he served honorably in WWII.Unfortunately, that's the only positive thing I can think of to say about him.

Sad news! A true American hero. Didn’t care for his politics, but his service can never be questioned! RIP! Prayers for his family.

Inouye was responsible for ousting the Communist Party infiltrators in Hawaiian Territorial politics in the late 1940’s, thus preventing them from taking over the Democratic Party.

Among those that Inouye ousted was Jack Hall, the CPUSA’s top man and political figure in Hawaii (ILWU, etc). He was billed as the next mayor of Honolulu, ie. the titular head of Hawaii.

Also, Inouye helped, indirectly to reduce the influence of Soviet agent of influence Frank Marshall Davis, Honolulu Record (CPUSA controlled paper). Davis had been sent down to Hawaii in the 1940’s at the request of two Soviet agents of influence, covert CPUSA Central Committee (1934) leader Harry Bridges (also CP of Australia), and Paul Robeson, a secret but also congressionally identified CPUSA workhorse.

Both Bridges and Robeson functioned as Soviet “operatives”. At that time they were probably under the control (direct or indirect) of the old NKVD/KGB or even the GRU. Until the KGB Archives are opened to the public, we won’t know positively or not. (Watch out for them flying pigs).

For a good look into the Hawaiian Communist Party operations, see the House Committee and Senate Internal Security Subcommittees on Communist Subversion in Hawaii, testimony of Jack Kawano, Jack Hall, etc.

Also, one woman CP lawyer representing Hawaiian reds was in the law firm that Hillary Clinton interned in. Surprise, surprise.

Inouye went further left as he got older (his other Hawaiian Senator, Akaka, was a hard core leftist), and Rep. Abercrombie, now Governor, has been an outright leftist since his friendship days with F.M. Davis and other Hawaiian reds.

That all said, I don’t think Inouye would ever do anything deliberately to hurt our country, but by being a Democrat, it comes with the job these days.

Dan, RIP.

I remember the Iran-Contra hearings. Contrasting Inouye’s questioning and behavior with that of Lee Hamilton’s, I came away with a lot of respect for Lee Hamilton.

Everybody’s bitching about professional politicians, but once they croak it’s all accolades!

I’m sure in the last election he agreed not to hold his opponent’s youth and inexperience against him (or her) (if he had an opponent).

If Tulsi Gabbard is appointed to the Senate, she will be *by far* the best-looking U.S. Senator ever. She also might be less liberal than any of the other candidates (Gabbard served in the military, and her father was a Republican state senator who switched to the Dems because he was irrelevant as one of only two Republicans in the body).

Whoever is appointed would have to defend the seat in a special election held in November 2014, when the governorship will also be up (but with no presidential election, much less one with “native son” Obama on the ballot). More interesting, in my mind, than which Democrat Abercrombie will appoint (or whether his appointee will survive the Dem primary) is whether former Congressman Charles Djou will run for the Senate or governorship. Former Gov. Linda Lingle might also make a run for one of those two offices.

Thurmond died at 101, a little over a year after not seeking reelection.

Specter did seek reelection; he merely lost the primary.

MoH Recipient...

They don’t just give those away.

RIP, Senator. God speed you home.

You were on the wrong side, politically, working on the side that wants to tear down what you fought to build up, and I’ll never be able to figure that out...

But God bless you anyway, and thank you for your service to God and Country.

The Wookie and the Kenyan are Illinoise residents, ineligible in Hawaii for anything.

Of course, that smelly communist Abercrappie will appoint some leftist Obunga bootlicker that will toe the liberal line reliably.
