Sunday

I learned about the massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school while we were setting up at Fox News to tape Cavuto on Business. The news was so horrible that we all felt as if we had lost our legs and could no longer stand. It was such horrible news that it simply turned the world upside down.

It still is that kind of news, and it’s incredibly depressing about the nature of humanity. And my wife and I pray all day for the souls of those dear children and for the peace, if there ever will be peace, of their families… and for the souls of the adults and the peace of those who knew and loved them.

As usual, the smartest comment about the whole subject came from John R. Coyne, Jr. “There is evil in the world. It’s beyond mental illness, beyond gun control. It is evil.”

Create a nationwide , Federal law enforcement branch that employs ONLY honorably retired or separated U.S. Military COMBAT VETERANS as well paid security personnel in EVERY school in America . All grades . Armed and ready and backed by the full power and authority of the U.S. Government , with broad rules of engagement of whom they can take down if ANYONE poses a serious threat or intent to do bodily harm to any student or faculty . Just the presence of such personnel would be in itself be a huge deterrent.
Put black armed guards ,former Marines and Soldiers , in predominantly black populated schools , Hispanic vets in predominantly Hispanic schools , and Caucasian vets in predominantly Caucasian schools . Create reasonable shifts , ie: half of each school day , with the one of two going off shift being ‘on-call ‘ as a QRF ( quick reaction force) should the on duty guard require immediate back up . Highly train these armed veteran school guards to work closely with local HPD who would serve as additional and further QRF should any situation arise .
Regular HPD can NEVER get there on time . In the minutes required to dispatch and arrive dozens of people can ( an do ) die . There must be someone there , armed ,well armed , all of the time. Whenever school is in session .
Not some rent-a-cop , Union flunkie ….But our own good trained , ready and experienced COMBAT VETERANS . Give them teeth and PAY THEM REAL WELL ….every school in America ….

These school protection detail armed guards would NOT be there for student order and discipline purposes .Except for cases where a student showed up with a firearm and started killing . Leave the regular school order and discipline control practices as they are . These guards need to be dedicated to external threats ONLY .

Sunday? Ben Stein learned about the massacre on SUNDAY? obviously, he doesn’t watch, read, or listen to the news on a regular basis.

0ben Stein is absolutely right. America has looked EVIL in the face and embraced it.

While I've heard many comments regarding the word evil I have not seen anyone really acknowledge what evil really is. It is the absence of God which is being trumpeted by some of the very people who are calling this tragedy evil.

The massacre in Conn. only took a few minutes. Unless the officer was in the exact location as the shooter, it would be over before they could react.

Create a nationwide , Federal law enforcement...

I stopped reading right there. Government is not the answer to almost every question that can be asked.

What’s wrong with that? Lots of people don’t watch, read, or listen to the news on a regular basis, especially on a weekend.

And Ben should be given credit for that. I take a break from the media on a regular basis unless I stumble on something on the net that prompts me to turn on the news. And after Fridays debacle with absurd amounts of misinformation I probably should have turned it back off. Wrong brother did it. What weapons were used? First the AR was found in the trunk. Later heard there were 2 ARs. Then 2 handguns. Dad had been killed. Girlfriend missing. Mom worked at the school. Only 2 dead. The list of wrong information was (and still is) HUGE. Keep your traps shut until we have the into right. But, too many leaks for that.

Helping keep mankind warm for 65 years.

And, Thanks Ben for not jumping on the “Ban Em’” band wagon.

Actually, there are some tv shows and movies you don’t want to watch because after awhile — they will make you evil.

I believe the “Sunday” printed at the top of the article indicates that the article was written on Sunday.

LIB: "What do you need a gun for?"

CON: "To protect my family, my life and my property"

LIB: "Just call the police if you have a problem"

CON: "When seconds count the police are just minutes away"

It is the absence of God which is being trumpeted by some of the very people who are calling this tragedy evil.

Their view of evil is different than yours although they use the word. In the worldly view, man is inherently good and evil arises when we are not allowed to achieve our natural goodness. In their view God restrains us through his commands and thus is the cause of evil.

Twisted logic but that is how they think. They are still in the Garden of Eden reaching for the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil where they get to decide what is good and evil.

You don’t think people will mind their taxes going up so these guards can be PAID REAL WELL? Will they be state employees, city, school district employees? That’s a lot of money to be paid out, especially since someone could easily spend 20yrs being a school guard, and never have anything to do. I don’t think it’s a realistic solution.

So true. Community schools are already circumscribed by federal regulations. Some of which might be at fault in this case.

I heard a young man say on tv that he liked video games because they are like stories that you can put yourself into and influence the story. While I grew up reading THE ILLIAD and SHANE, young men today play video games where they are part of the story and can themselves defeat evil.
Some video games are truly awful, though.
Highly intelligent young men need a Dad around to mentor them. Bright young boys are smart enough to see the truly horrific things in this world. Most young kids don’t watch the news, but the bright ones are aware of what goes on around the world. Even now bright young boys are reflecting on this tragedy. They are smart enough to see the horror, but not emotionally experienced to deal with it. We are also a society that teaches our men to solve problems. The young boys know this and they want to solve the problems, but they can’t. So they become frustrated. Throw in the normal teenage boy hormones and the energy of youth. Add in shyness with girls and a society that idealizes looks, fame and athleticism, and some boys are going to have problems.
The bright young men see problems....want to solve them......can’t......become really agitated.....don’t have the experience and emotional maturity to deal with their observations and feelings....become frustrated.....have no one to mentor them through these male feelings....explode.
I don’t have any sure fire solutions, but I think single Moms with bright boys hitting seven or eight years old should get Grandpa or an Uncle or somebody who grew up a bright young man to help the boy through it.

Obama thought the deaths of those children tragic. Yet, if their mothers had aborted them, he’d have been on the side of the mothers.

In this culture of death, Stein is surprised we have children who think nothing of killing?

In the worldly view, man is inherently good and evil arises when we are not allowed to achieve our natural goodness.

I've heard this before and I have a nagging question. I'm not claiming you believe this, but maybe you've heard the answer.

If people are basically good, and society is made up of people, and society keeps people from achieving their natural goodness, what screwed society up in the first place? What mucked up the system?
