Boehner offers debt-ceiling increase in cliff compromise

House Speaker John A. Boehner has offered to push any fight over the federal debt limit off for a year, a concession that would deprive Republicans of leverage in the budget battle but is breathing new life into stalled talks over the year-end “fiscal cliff.”

The offer came Friday, according to people in both parties familiar with the talks, as part of the latest effort by Boehner (R-Ohio) to strike a deal with President Obama to replace more than $500 billion in painful deficit-reduction measures set to take effect in January.

Obama administration wants to limit deductions by high-income earners, including those given to charities.

With the national debt already bumping up against a $16.4 trillion cap set last year, Congress risks a government default unless it acts to raise the debt ceiling in the next few months. Some Republicans had argued that party leaders should use the threat of default to demand additional spending cuts from Obama.

Boehner’s offer signals that he expects a big deal with sufficient savings to meet his demand that any debt limit increase be paired dollar for dollar with spending cuts. That would permit him to keep a key vow to his party — and head off a potentially nasty debt-limit fight — at least until the end of next year.

This is a smart move on his part. The GOP is faced with looming tax increases. Well Obama is faced with a looming balanced budget. Who do you think would hate to face what they don’t want more?

Boehner is scared to death of Dec. 31 coming with no deal. Why he is scared is of no consequence, it is what it is. He goes to Pres and gives in to “x”, Pres says no. Boehner goes back again and this time adds “x” to give up. Pres says no. Boehner will keep going back giving up something else and finally when he has nothing else to give as Pres now has it all, Pres will say OK.

We need a different speaker just so we don’t have to look at a crying Boehner.

The USA has come to a very sorry state of affairs when one person of the likes of Boehner elected buy a very small proportion of citizens can sell out the economic and traditional values of our Nation. Shame on all the other Republicans who follow like sheep. Of course like the old adage a citizen never really knows what they are buying—or do they?

If Boehner gets large enough spending cuts the increased debt limit is irrelevant and theoretically wouldn’t be reached. Obie won’t agree and is increasingly looking like the one to blame for the predicament

I’m sceptical that Boehner has toughened enough to achieve anything meaningful but assume Obie wants a crisis. Boehners offers will shift blame from republicans to a Marxist in the white hut who is seeking chaos for the sake of decimating the country.

COMPROMISE!

The most beautiful sound to a Republican’s ears.

It means that they don’t have to stand their ground and maybe “piss off” some of the more liberal voters; it means they are being nice and are going along to get along and don’t have to be called “mean spirited.”

As I have said many, many times in the past, true leaders NEVER COMPROMISE.

Every time I hear the name “Bohner” my stomach turns. Worse yet the RINOs, timid Republicans and Politically Correct all eat “compromise” for their daily power trip.

I’ve thrown up my hands! We have no one to represent us!
