Fiscal Cliff 'Breakthrough' — Boehner Offers To Include Debt Ceiling Hike Along With Higher Taxes
Business Insider ^ | 12/16/2012 | Joe Weisenthal

Things are getting interesting on the Fiscal Cliff front. Last night it was reported by multiple outlets that John Boehner agreed to let taxes rise on those making $1 million more per year. That was seen by the White House as a too-narrow concession, but it was something, as it meant that the real negotiation was beginning, as the two sides have begun to trade taxes and spending cuts. Now there's more signs of real movement.

The Washington Post's Lori Montgomery and Paul Kane report that John Boehner has now offered to include a one-year debt ceiling hike in his offer, taking away a key point of Republican leverage coming up in just a couple of months.

From WaPo:

_______________

The White House rejected the offer, saying it would raise too little cash to significantly dent record budget deficits and do nothing to extend emergency unemployments benefits into the new year, according to a Democrat familiar with the talks.

But the tax offer was viewed as a breakthrough, the Democrat said. Senior White House officials remained in contact with Boehner’s staff throughout the weekend in a sign that serious negotiations had finally begun after weeks of stalemate and partisan posturing.

Clearly with the clock ticking down, Boehner is actually putting things on the table that represent concessions. Next is for The White House to counter with something new.

The RINOcrats help to give the democrats everything they need, while fooling the people by playing the opposition party.

Yes, it is worse. Obama would be smart to take it, because he gets the republicans as tax-raisers, and yet it isn’t what Obama wanted, so it looks like he capitulated.

And then he can blame the republicans for whatever bad happens as a result, since they didn’t take his plan.

I do wonder if these are really tax increases though, and not simply NOT extending the tax cuts.

Because in January, taxes are going up for everybody. And because of the vote of congress to let this happen two years ago, to allow the tax cuts to expire over not including the millionaires will look very bad.

Suppose the taxes were currently at the clinton rates, and we were arguing over tax cuts. Would we all be upset if we could get a tax cut for everybody EXCEPT those over a million a year? Sure, we’d rather include everybody, but are we now the party of “only give tax cuts to the middle class if we have to to get tax cuts for the rich?

We should either stand strong to get all the tax cuts, or just give up and give Obama his tax cuts, and blame him when the economy sputters.

I'm no longer a Republican - After 40 years as a registered Republican

It took you 40 years to see the truth? Didn't you pay attention to what was going on the first 39 years? The Republicans have done this as far back as I can remember.

One of the main differences between the RINOcrats and the democrats is that the democrats actually win some things for their constituents, even when they are in the minority. The RINOcrats on the other hand not only don’t win anything when they are in the majority, they help out the democrats by getting through tough and controversial liberal agenda items.

To paraphrase that Churchill incident, Obama, after hearing the $1,000,000 offer tells Boehner “How about an income limit of $100,000?”

“Mr. Obama - I am NOT a pushover!”

“Oh - you have already established that you are - now we are just negotiating a price.”

Obama’s rejection says it all though. He always wanted to go over the cliff and he probably relished the initial Boehner cave which gave us the Grand Super Committee in the first place. He gets tax increases, defense cuts, AND now Boehner shows the Debt Ceiling card.

The entire House has to vote on this, right?
I mean, the cowardly weakling Boehner can’t sell out the nation all by himself, right?
He’ll have to round up 20 or so fellow-traveling scumbag Republican cowards to go along with all the rats... right?

America is done.

This article doesn't say what Boehner is asking for.

My guess is that there will be some kind of entitlement reform.

In reality, when the debt limit is reached, there is no leverage by either side, as billions in spending can’t be ground down within a few days, nor can taxes be raised to meet the limit.

So intermediate debt limits are just BS.

Zer0 has been beating for Millionaires and Billionaires tax increases.

So, Boerner has met the horseshit media demands of Zer0, not $200,000 Zer0 “Millionaires”.
I think that it’s a good posture, as long as he doesn’t cave further!

The caving is, always, one way only! Where’s ALL of the caving on the Democratic Party side?

Their side is filled with ideologues. Our side is filled with opportunists.

Ideologues will sacrifice themselves for the cause, like suicide bombers. Opportunists will go whichever way the wind blows, as long as the wind is blowing in their temporary favor.

Few people with principles can get elected, apparently.

GOP offers are not even close to what Obama is asking. Next offer is Obama's to make.

NOTE: The White House has no intention of negotiating with Bohener.....
*********************************
Boehner should not be negotiating with Obama at all!

He should stop that and say publically that he will only negotiate with the majority leader of the Senate; Dirty Harry.

The role of the Prez is to sign or veto legislation, not to threaten and browbeat people serving in the Legislative Branch.

The Pubbies in the House the past four years have allowed the Dems and Prez to treat them like trash!

Looks like Zer0 now has two house dogs: Bo and Boehner.

"H-hear Bo! Hear B-b-bo-ner! N-n-now sit up! R-r-roll over! P-p-play d-d-dead!"
