The pea-brained Miller hasn't got the smarts to figure out that, the perpetrator in the killing of his mother, could just as easily murdered her with a kitchen knife, or a hammer, or a shovel, or by strangulation, all of which are not considered "weapons" until they are used as weapons. Lanza's mother probably never suspected that her son was going to be the one to murder her. She was armed to protect against a non-relative intruder.

Jo Miller may be an unpleasant moron, but Nancy Lanza was extremely stupid.

She treated a lunatic as if he were a responsible adult.

She had every material advantage - her ex-husband was paying her hundreds of thousands of dollars a year just for existing.

She had one earthly responsibility and her failure is something that many families are now paying for.
