Mental Health Advocacy Gone "Nuts"
MindFreedom ^

Posted on 12/16/2012 8:16:34 AM PST by txnativegop

The dangers of allowing mentally distrurbed individuals to roam our streets should be common sense. The recent shooting in CT was proof of that contention. However, this advocacy group did not get the memo apparently.

MindFreedom has a public protest campaign called “MadPride”. They seemingly want psychiatric patients to stop taking their medications.

These people are scary.

There was a time when people judged to potentially cause harm to themselves or others were committed to mental health hospitals. These facilities were closed by do-gooder liberals mostly in the 1960s.

Ironically, there is a closed hospital like this just 1.5 miles from where the shooting took place.

We need to start advocating for such hospitals to be reopened. It might help prevent tragedies like CT. Won’t stop them all of course, but anything is better than what we have now.

It was Pres. Reagan that forced them out on to the streets around 1985.

I agree, and a public policy of “free range” mentally ill people is dangerous and cruel for them and dangerous and cruel for many who come in contact with them. But this started with Kennedy’s Community Mental Health Act of 1963, and since it’s taken 50 years to create the current mess, it’s going to take a while to fix it. If it ever gets fixed. Probably not in my lifetime.

Nor mine either, I’m afraid. However, we have to start somewhere, and it might as well be here.

If the mentally ill were institutionalized it would reduce the liberal voting rolls, and members of the House and Senate would be unavailable to serve.

It was Pres. Reagan that forced them out on to the streets around 1985.

Bull Crap. Reagan wanted to reform the hospitals, not close them. The Democrat controlled congress forced closure on him. The move to close them started by a 60 Minutes episode by Geraldo Rivera on the Willowbrook mental hospital called "Willowbrook: the Last Great Disgrace". This started a big movement by liberals and the ACLU to shut all of these hospitals down. When Reagan was governor of California, the liberals held the budget over his head in exchange to close them down. Reagan's proposal was to just reform the system. It was liberals who shut them down.

Dear Mr. Jack Hydrazine,

Get your facts straight.

Reagan was President some 15 years AFTER the liberoids of the 1960’s pushed through de-institutionalization including Supreme Court findings that the mentally ill did not need to take medication until they are imminently dangerous.

You can thank left-wing progressives for the fact that mentally ill people like Adam Lanza are able to carry out their disturbed malevolence.

Not only did President Reagan have nothing to do with this, he was nearly assassinated by one such mentally ill young man.

Sincerely,
Dodger

Liberals would not hesitate to classify you as insane and lock you up. From the looks of the airports, sexual torture will be a part of it, don’t worry.

If the protestors from MindFreedom don’t mind having the nut cases living in their homes during this drug free process for at least a year, then let them house their cause.
I’m sure there is also an anti condom group for gays out there as well, doesn’t mean it’s going to do good.

That is a crazy thought on your part, so are you therefore part of the definition of EVIL??? Of course not!

Look, these people have problems. The mother didn’t need to allow this mental child to have access to violent video games and it is beyond stupid that she decided that this was the child one should bring to the shooting range so he could become proficient.
Having no success in much in life he became very attached to the world of the violent video games and to one of the few successes he had in life which was shooting his mom’s guns.
He should have been chemically or in some other ways castrated as to block the hormones that hit in the teenage years and this child would have remained IMO manageable as an adult.
Once they start going all off in their own world with the addition of being all sexually charged up they go mental.
Probably spent 7 hours or more a day trying to jerk off to porn and another four hours with video games. The rest of the time he was either sleeping, stalking or threatening others.

It did NOT go beyond me that the brother and dad had little if any contact with this guy.
Chemical or other castration would have IMO prevented the frustration and anger which led to all this death.
