"The NRA (National Rifle Association) is strong and many of them (members of Congress) take the position that any gun position is going to lead to the position of taking away of all guns," Ellison said. "This is not rational. We need sane, sensible gun regulation and we need it now."

We have gun regulations coming out the wazzoo already. But ya know, someone bent on murder and suicide probably isn't going to give a big fat whoop if he/she is breaking 5 laws or 50 laws. All those laws are going to do is inhibit law abiding citizens from being in a position and equipped to deal with a situation in an immediate and conclusive manner.

So yeah, additional gun control laws and regulations have zero effect on the evil and insane. Their only real purpose is in fact to take firearms out of the hands of law abiding citizens, leaving them defenseless. Which is how we end up with things like we have today.

Thank you liberal gun-grabbers and hand wringers for ensuring that no responsible, law-abiding citizen was armed and prepared to stop that incident. Those deaths are in no small part on you. Sleep well.

TRANSLATION = We need total civilian disarmament and we want to use this criminal act to serve as a smoke screen for it.

The democratic politician's ideal world (and that of a great many Republicans too) is one where only the police and the military are armed. One where the bulk of the population alternates between cowering defenselessly between threats from unorganized criminal gangs, and fear of the government's jackbooted thugs. The unorganized criminals are by far the lesser threat
