Former Democrat Joe Lieberman used his last speech on the U.S. Senate floor on Wednesday to call for bipartisanship and get in a last dig over the controversial result of the 2000 election, when he was the Democratic vice presidential nominee.

Lieberman, 70, announced in January 2011 that he would retire when his fourth term ends next month rather than seek re-election. He reflected on his career in remarks that lasted for about 20 minutes, recounting landmarks in his career and changes in society since he became a U.S. senator in January 1989. “When I started here in the Senate, a blackberry was a fruit and tweeting was something only birds do,” Lieberman said. …

As Republicans in Congress and Obama’s White House debate how to address the country’s budget problems, Lieberman made a passionate appeal for the country not to focus exclusively on domestic politics. …

Fat chance. Obama/Dems want to drive over a cliff then seize power.

Lieberman to leave U.S. Senate; calls for bipartisanship

Liebermann would win my respect if he denounced that joke of a party he once belonged to.

Where will you be when Ubama's triple-digit hyper-inflationary death-spiral comes to town?

Even if he pulled a Zell Miller I would still have a hard time with him. So he became an “independent” and still caucused with the Dems and reliably and predictably voted with them. BFD.

Liebermann would win my respect if he denounced that joke of a party he once belonged to.

Liebermann had two opportunities to act the statesman and serve his country:

1. Bush-Gore: As Gore's VP nominee he could've spoken out against the charade in Florida and expressed his support for Bush as POTUS-elect.

2. Obamacare: Lieberman could've been the 41st vote against Obamacare. Instead, he allowed himself to be bribed by the (short-term) inclusion of his constituent insurance companies in the program.

In both cases, he succumbed to partisanship and failed to act in the best interest of his country.

Lieberman is not worthy of your respect.

What . . . ever! He still believes in the wholesale wanton murder of 3,300 unborn and newly born American babies DAILY in our country. He should be ashamed of himself for that and for his undying support of the anti-Semite in our White House and the whole administrations’ hatred of all Jews.

What a hypocrite! Good riddance!

When's the last time ya did anything for me, Joe?

When's the last time ya did anything for your country, then.

Thought so, I can't remember either.

Pound sand, Joe.

"Ex"? Since when has he quit the RAT party? I must have missed the memo. Last time I checked, he is a lifelong registered RAT party member, upheld the RAT platform but nevertheless lost the RAT primary in 2006, and some foolish freepers helped re-elect his socialist butt, then he came crawling BACK to the RAT caucus, cast the tie-breaking vote to give them control, and helped pass every single one of the Obama's administration's priorities, from the porkulus bill to Obamacare. LIEberman has always been a good loyal RAT regardless of whether his fellow RATs acknowledge it and no matter how many times the mainstream lies about him being "independent-minded"

There are probably some other reasons to be found, but that says it right there.

“It’s the partisan polarization of our politics which prevents us from making the principled compromises on which progress in a democracy depends, and right now, which prevents us from restoring our fiscal solvency as a nation,” Lieberman said.

Afterward there followed ... (cue crickets).

Yup. Thanks for your service, Joe, and your example. Its effect will be felt for, literally, moments.

Joe, I got your number in Sept. 1998, with your two faced soliliquoy about BJ Clinton.

You, as an Orthodox Jew, made the case for the moral reason to hold the President accountable, and then you reversed yourself and gave him cover.

MAy history record you as the little man that you really are. You failed your country many times. Good riddance.

So how'd it work out for all those "conservatives" who helped re-elect this socialist because the war on terror was supposedly the "most important issue"
