I think that icon represents a guy winking at me with a baseball cap on, but he got hit in the mouth with a softball and it’s stuck, and the little dots are his teeth falling out.

Laz, have you ever suspected that some of the old school Freeps have handed their accounts over to young Turks at least from time to time, YT's perhaps not so conservative as they...is the evil Left willing to pay old Freepers to use their names for purposes of sedition?
...I ain't a noob nor an OG (original gansta;) like you still sometimes the debates get a little weird here...but it's more than difficult to call out a troll when his FR handle is over a decade old.

Naw. I just suspect that some of the people who originally signed on, varied from RINO's to fiercely conservative. There's one fellow in particular, I am thinking of. Out of fairness to him, I won't name him. He was a FR bigwig for some time, but it turned out, when he was banned for pounding on Sarah Palin pretty much with every post, that he may have held some conservative ideals, and some ideals that were more Republican party loyalist. There have been, actually, more than just a few of those, now that I think of it. The Old Guarde was just as likely to get some more-Republican/less-Conservative people as the current signup crew.
In fact, there's one guy, who's name escapes me, who actually admits to starting here as a conservative -- way back in 1998 -- but drifting so far to the left that he now self-describes as an outright liberal.
So, standards have changed, and even people change.

So we got some Goldwaters here—righteous conservative heroes in the beginning but senile gullible old fools near the end...
...I prefer the nefarious conspiracies of the evil Left but you are probably right and it breaks my heart that some of us are so weak—so weak as to suggest our struggle is a question of if the cause is worth it.

How does this equal McCarthyism?
Where is the threat of Communism being squashed?
Where are the slanderous charges of “manipulated photos”?
Where are the charges of “ever changing numbers of reputed names”?
The Left played to the middle in 2006 and then quickly blocked the moderate Democrats from actually holding any power.
No talk of “purges” or “gulaging” was used.
There may very well be an organized plan to remove the Tea Party/conservative candidates from power, but don’t buy into the myths of “McCarthyism”.

I have also asked my Congressman to abstain or vote no and get rid of Tammy Faye. Prolly won’t happen though.

Before McCarthy gets strung up, Id like to know a little more, because he is been a reliable conservative vote (even though he is from California). Too late. Snap decisions have been made. Those displeased with all things, or who have financial or political incentive to stir divisions, have settled on a GOPe purge talking-point. Doesn't matter who did it, why it was done, who the replacements were, that liberals were also replaced... it's a grand purge by the establishment.
Democrats don't need help defeating our agenda, in-fighting more than solves that problem for them.

I’ve been crossing swords with this P.O.S. since we were both in the Young Republicans twenty years ago. He’s an establishment RINO and always has been, but he’s been schmoozing his way up the ladder for a decade now and gaining favor among some conservatives because he raises money and talks a good game. So glad his true stripes are finally showing.

In regards to my earlier post (below)I confused Laz with Ken
H. It's Ken H who is the decrepit 105, and Laz is the even sprightlier-than-us 92.
FR began 2/97, so let's make original Freepers of that year as
old as the world's oldest people, or 105. So 7 years would be equivalent
to 1 year as a Freeper (just like dogs!). This makes old Laz
a decrepit 105, but hosepipe and me are a sprightly 98.

"I guess Im surprised that that Breitbarts writers are surprised that McCarthy had a hand in this. I mean, party Whips *do* tend to be the guys who keep tabs on individual members, and dole out party discipline to an extent (though less so in our system than in the UK, etc.)"But McCarthy had made nice-nice with Tea and Tea allied freshman; in retrospect, in exactly the same way Steny Hoyer herded the Blue Dogs into a pen, and we all know what happened to the Blue Dogs in 2010...

I don’t know much about this McCarthy except that he comes from a state with one of the most moribund Republican parties in the nation. And there is no solution in sight.

Ah ha. It's an old fogies convention. I'm just a newbie here compared to you guys...{;)}
Same old stuff in the house, it's like a brutal presidential campaign. The GOPe's first priority is to destroy any movement toward conservatism first, regardless of whether that's fiscal or any other stripe.
Take [count em] steps to left and call out anyone standing to your right; a member in poor standing or worse. Makes you wonder doesn't it?
Off subject; Subject = TV ... It's not about entertainment. It's not about information. It's about control. ---- They're proving it works!
I'm lucky, I have no time for it anyway. Ongoing boycott (some football, baseball, and hockey excluded) for the past 10 or so years. No weather, no news, I suppose a few presidential debates are also excluded as webcasts.
Best Holiday Good Cheer to all my Freeper friends. God Bless and Merry Christmas.

I defer to my senior, by 9 months and 9 days.
I feel something especially precious about Christmas this year, as it speaks so poignantly of a time gone by, not just 2000 years, but the past 50 or so too in a personal way, and I for the first time feel it slipping into the past, that we are onto new turf as a nation, as a culture. I fear what we have wrought.
A Blessed and Merry Christmas to you, Z.
