In Illinois you can opt out of teacher union but you have to put that dues amount to a charity of their choice.....so the same amount of $$ is still not in the pay check. Not sure about the charity if your choice or theirs tho.
You can opt out of that portion of the dues used for political purposes. That may be about a 35% refund. Or, do a charitable deduction of all the dues to a charity.

I just remember my granddaughter said it is $600 per year either way that she doesn’t get to use for her own bills.
It is pretty easy to fill out the form and demand a refund of a portion of the dues. What state?
