Obama: Look at Michigan to See How Unions Built America’s Middle Class

I don't know all the particulars on forced busing but supposedly, in order to make the inner city schools more equal to the schools in the richer districts they bused poorer kids in. This did not equalize things like they had planned, in fact it made the whole situation worse. People moved to the suburbs so that they would not have to be involved in the social and educational experiment. The school I went to bussed in ten black kids. They kept to themselves even though people made every effort to include them. That was in 1966. People began leaving cities like Detroit. Policies put in place by LBJ's "New Society" destroyed vital city centers. Blacks families did not like forced bussing either. I heard stories of kids spending a hour or more on the bus per ride when they lived very close to a neighborhood school. In the end, we got blighted neighborhoods and the schools got even worse.

The federal government can not fix our schools. National Review had an article many years ago which outlined why blacks schools were not as good as other schools and it came down to one thing - the teachers coming out of the black colleges were not as well-trained as other teachers. So, instead of addressing the problem of inferior teachers, the government took control, went overboard and did not fix the problem.

Before LBJ, Michigan had excellent schools. In fact, the Flint Community school system was seen as a model for a number of school systems throughout the U.S. Now it is a shell of its former self. But the destruction of the Black family where the true damage has taken place.
