I have an elderly friend who has a free US government cell phone. She keeps it on the table right next to her land line.
;-)

Hahahah. Yeah, riiiight. They want jobs. LOL.

“This is great – it is transformative for homeless and low-income people."

Yeah. They can't wait to see what freebies the politicians will steal for them next!

California is behind the curve on this Florida has had them since the Bush administration so where the Obama phone comes from is beyond me.

San Francisco’s head of homeless initiatives, Bevan Dufty, was overjoyed

Bevan Dufty?

Just from the name you know he has to be gay.

Yep, gay alright.

If this is a right...why can’t six year-old kids get the same deal from the state government? And the illegal aliens after they cross the border....could they get one? At some point, you just spend money on whatever you can....and just figure taxes will rise to meet your expectations.

Yep. Sure thing.

Really, it's to make them feel dignified in their squalor; or maybe to call up the legal aid lawyer and sue some establishment for showing them disrespect.

Communist/Marxist agenda, get rid of all land line phones. Then knock out the cell phone towers, no one can communicate and takeover begins. A great plan by Obama and his ilk.

How does California expect the homeless to re-charge their cell phones...if they have no home (and, presumably, no car)?

Will they provide free re-charging stations on the street corners adjacent to the liquor stores or the overpasses?

If some scary entity was able to shut down cell phone communication in order to take over, wouldn’t they also have to shut down the internet?

And if they could do that, why would they need to first eliminate land lines? They’d have the power to shut those down as well.
