OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Two Democrats in the Washington state Senate abandoned their caucus Monday, vowing to work with Republicans to control the chamber and push conservative budgeting principles.
Democratic Sens. Rodney Tom of Bellevue and Tim Sheldon of Potlatch said the bipartisan cooperation would drive better policies. Under the new plan, Republicans will chair six committees, including the panel that controls the state budget, while Democrats will control another six committees. The parties will split control of three other panels, though Sheldon is on two of those committees.

This is weird. The same thing just happened in New York State.
If this happens in one more state I am going to assume there is a conspiracy. Maybe someone with deep pockets is buying off Democrats.

You’d like to hope and believe so, friend... That might be too much to hope for, though, at this point.
I’ll settle for them being the thorn in their local Dem party’s ass and smile at the thought of it...
Things have gone the other way in Alaska and Tennessee in the past few years—and I think that this year the Arkansas house has a speaker who is the choice of most of the Demas and a few of the pubs.
Let’s just hope the Republicans have the guts to push conservative budgeting principles.

Maybe a few Democrats see the train wrecks in California and Illinois and realize they need a brake on the crazy spending.
More likely ... its all about ‘me’.
Tom was once a Republican before switching to the dems 6 years ago. And Tim Sheldon is really an independant. Hstorically he votes with republicans about 40% of the time and many democrats despise him.
A friend of mine is a State Senator here in Washington. I donated and waved signs for his campaign. I will have to give him a call and find out how this will change the dynamics in this next session.
My brother is good friends with another Senator over on the coast and he is usually a good “go to” person for Republicans when they need his vote even though he is a Democrat. Very conservative socially but not so much fiscally. I wouldn’t be surprised if he switched parties when he decides to hang it up and not to run again. Truth is he is more aligned with Republican values but CANNOT get elected as a Republican in his county. Period.
