It wasn’t just drinking. I recall the video clearly. They were also smoking weed while drinking their beer.

What exactly is the lesson to be learned?

Unions are outdated, anti-competitive, inefficient, destructive and dangerous.

Anything questions?

A similar anecdote: I used to work for a company with an underground mine at the 1500 ft level. Cutting through rock in such a mine releases natural methane gas, which must be constantly monitored and controlled through active ventilation.

One of the absolute, hard-and-fast rules in such a mine is NO SMOKING!!! Of course, one of the union bozos understood that rules don't apply to union workers, so he snuck away, lit up his pipe full of weed and toked away while others worked in a potentially explosive environment.

He was caught, turned in to the safety dept. and promptely fired, as he should have been. At the very next contract negotiation, the union demanded -- and got -- the guy re-hired.

The fact that this guy was doing his best to get himself and everyone else -- all union members -- on his shift KILLED didn't faze the union in the least.

I didn’t know that.

In that case I vote the death penalty + life without parole + they may never drive anything but GM autos ever!

Hopefully they learned their lesson.

The only lesson I see them learning is that they can drink or "smoke" during their lunch breaks, DRIVE back to work while under the influence, build cars, again while under the influence, and get away with it thanks to the UAW.

They shouldn’t be punished for life for drinking.

If you feel that way, then feel free to buy one of their products.

As for me, I believe in buying American and I don't want Americans to lose their jobs, but I'm not risking my life in a car built by them, and I don't expect anyone else to either. If the UAW is going to defend this, then my next car will either be a foreign built Ford or a transplant.

I spent 30 years working for this electronic manufacturer that now makes ink. Back in the day the field offices would open the liquor cabinet at 3:30 on Friday. Across the country in Cupertino the gates would swing shut. A semi with a flatbed trailer for the band and the truck with taps on both sides on Fridays. It was like watching “Bewitched”, Sam, make it a double. Then the lawyers moved in.

I’d still hold off on the driving part. If they thought it was OK to get sloshed at work, I’m sure they have little inhibition about DUI.

I should have read some of your subsequent posts before posting my reply. Uh, never mind what I said about “If you feel that way, then feel free to buy one of their products.”
