The Great "HOW TO WIN ELECTIONS" Wars (tea party vs. insiders)
The Tea Party Tribune ^ | December 4, 2012 | Jonathon Moseley

Posted on 12/09/2012 7:52:03 AM PST by Moseley

Almost every challenge facing the Republican Party boils down to one issue: How is it possible for Republicans to win elections? The GOP establishment fights, undermines, lies to, and betrays conservative Americans because GOP insiders do not believe it is possible to win elections on a tea party agenda.

We’re looking at everything all wrong. We want Republican leaders to champion our tea party issues. But they can’t. They don’t know how.

Conservatives believe that a properly-run campaign based on conservative values will win. More than that, we know it is the only way that a Republican candidate can win.

GOP insiders are convinced that the only way a Republican nominee can win is to become a bad photocopy of the Democrat. But that’s because moderates don’t remotely understand how to actually win an election. While conservatives can articulate detailed specifics about their strategy, Republican moderates, elites, and insiders offer only platitudes.

The establishment has a religious faith in the idea that to win, the Republican Party has to surrender everything it stands for and believes. GOP moderates believe it is just “obvious” that their strategy is right. But what is obvious is that moderates haven’t really thought any of it through.

The establishment tells us that the answer is nominating “better” candidates. First, this is a meaningless, superficial platitude, not a plan. Naturally, better is better than worse. Worse is worse than better. This sounds like a child’s nursery rhyme, not a strategy for winning elections.

Conservatives take action, while moderates simply throw rotten tomatoes from the peanut gallery. A “Future Candidates School” has been taught by the Leadership Institute, run by conservative godfather Morton Blackwell, for a couple of decades. Newt Gingrich’s GOPAC was created in the 1980’s in part to prepare conservatives to run for office or for higher office. Conservatives have been doing it for decades.

Second, of course, the most experienced Republican officials are all very experienced in wrecking the country. So if we look for candidates who are “better” in terms of their goals for saving the nation from – well, to be frank – the other Republicans who helped wreck it, we are necessarily going to have to look outside the ranks of self-congratulating, self-important, self-appointed leaders.

When Republican insiders call for “better” candidates they mean “me” (the insider). Unacceptable candidates are “anyone other than me.”

Third, however, by “better” the elites mean “Someone the news media won’t criticize.” However, that is a fantasy… a delusion. The news media will always criticize any Republican to further the liberal, big-government agenda. The liberal media will only praise, protect, or leave alone a Republican to the extent that it harms a different Republican or pushes a liberal theme. Then the same media will turn around and savage that same Republican later when it advances the liberal agenda. John McCain is a prime example. The darling of the media of years past suddenly became evil when the media wanted to elect Barack Obama.

And the reasons given today for the media to attack Republican candidates will change tomorrow. So if the media is attacking the GOP on issue X, and the GOP caves on X, the media will simply attack Republicans on Y later. These factors are obvious to conservatives, yet establishment Republicans remain totally blind to these realities.

But when it comes to running campaigns, conservatives and Republican moderates exist in entirely different universes. The Republican establishment has no idea what you are talking about when you criticize their atrocious election campaigns.

You argue “Let’s run a candidate who stands for something.” You are speaking a foreign language. They have no idea what that means.

Ronald Reagan showed the way. So the tea party and other conservatives believe it is overwhelmingly obvious: Do what Reagan did.

But this blueprint that seems so clear, simple, direct, and obvious to us, the Republican establishment has never understood. Those are the people who during the Reagan Administration kept trying to stop Reagan from everything he was doing. They didn’t ‘get’ Reagan then and they have no idea what we are talking about today.

Republican moderates and insiders differ radically from conservatives in many ways — not just on the issues. (1) on the entire reason for being involved in politics, (2) on how election campaigns work and should be run, (3) on whether and how to persuade voters instead of pandering to them, (4) on personal courage in taking a stand, (5) how to deal with the news media, and (6) how to respond to criticism and negative information in campaigns.

For us, there is no reason to win an election except to change things. We would rather spend our time with our families, our churches, our hobbies, and private lives.

Quite simply, Republican insiders stink at running election campaigns. Conservative campaigns, by contrast, stink only some of the time.

Nothing can change for the better until all Republicans of all types master the techniques of winning elections. Too many people think that it’s a do-it-yourself project of “Doin’ a-what comes naturally.”

The only way to haul the Republican insiders out of their pit of despair is to show them what is really possible. We can’t just talk about it. We have to demonstrate how successful campaigns can be run.

First off don’t allow the media to call you GOP.

Who the #311 even knows what GOP means? The avg idiot is clueless. But democrat is always spelled out.

Grand: sorry, it’s not grand. And grand appears elitist.
Old: sorry, Americans want new not OLD.
Party: ok, it’s a party.

GOP is dead to me. After a mclame and romney, it’s obvious this party cares not about winning elections.

Mccain could not have been a WORSE candidate!

2008- Establishment nominates McCain. GOP gets blown out.
2010- Congressional elections. Tea Party agenda and candidates. GOP wins big nationally, retakes the House. Wins big even in statewide races.
2012- Establishment nominates Romney. You get the picture.

See the pattern developing. No doubt in 2014 there will be GOP pickups as long as the Tea Party is active but come 2016 if a Jeb Bush or Chris Christie gets the nod the same result in 08 and this year will occur.

It is critically important for the GOP to bring back the Tea Party now, and (not) let the party become another Romney / Bush weak link in 2016.

What is critical is 2014, and the organization for 2016.

Now.

Not in 2014, and 2016. Now.

Obama care was the cause of Re[ublican victories in 2010, It stood to reason that the Republicans could build on that victory by hitting the Democrats hard on this issue, But after Roberts refused to take down this monster, they had no fallback strategy. They even nominated a candidate whose views on medical were virtually the same Obama’s. What’smore he was this fllthy rich guy that Obama could demonize. Bottom line, though. The Tea Party people refused to get behind a single candidate.

I agree 100%.

Let us take back the party, now. For 2014. Do not wait, and do not hesitate.

Stop being part of the growing problem, that is GOP support of offshore manufacturing. For crying out loud, we have given away our own party.

Either fix the problem now, or we replace the GOP with the Tea Party.

NOW.

Then in 2016, keep that front and center. Otherwise, if that is not possible in the GOP, then in a new party.

Start now.

We probably won't be winning any more elections until we clean up our voting process

Can't you just imagine this was the scene with Obama and his Commie staff after stealing the election through voter fraud- while Conservatives blame Romney, argue, point fingers, blather on about who to run in four years, 'starting a new party', and try to figure out how to suck up to minorities the 'next time'?

Next time? What makes you think 2014 or 2016 will be any better after this past election farce? If we don't clean up our election process we may never see another Republican president in our lifetime.

Map from Barack Obama Voter Fraud 2012

What most refuse to acknowledge is that it was unlikely that ANYBODY could have beaten the voter fraud planned and perpetrated by the Obama machine. They seem to prefer pointing fingers, blaming Romney and blathering on about who to run in 2016 and how to suck up to the minorities.

>Polls indicated that Romney was going to win the election.

>The economy is close to Great Depression era conditions, and unemployment is almost as high as when Obama entered office.

>Economic conditions became so dire after Obama took office it prompted the rise of an entire new movement, the Tea Party.

>Presidents rarely win reelection when the economy is in the tank.

>Mitt knew it too, when he was met by several thousand in that parking garage cheering him when he arrived unannounced at that airport, and he put his hand over his heart and said, 'This is how you know you've won'.

So how did Romney lose a race that numerous reputable polls and pundits predicted would be an easy win, based on historical patterns?

Massive voter fraud.

That and no other reason

Almost every major Conservative website has put out an article charging voter fraud- Breitbart, American Thinker, Atlas Shrugs, WND, The Blaze, Front Page Magazine, Fox News, The Daily Caller, Town Hall, Human Events, Canada Free Press...

We can not wait for 2014 and 2016 to regroup and figure out new strategies. By then it will be too late. The Marxist/Muslim usurper will have completed his planned distruction of America. That's what people fail to understand.

We must act NOW.

Start with the election. If we let the Rats get away with this massive voter fraud, we're no better than a bananna republic.

We must keep digging and pounding him every day, in every way we can- phony birth certificate, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, his hidden life, records....

'This election is not over - YET. Obama has not been elected by the Electoral College - YET. The Presidential election is being stolen from us with "Chicago Style" thuggery - and we can STOP the thieves in their tracks. But we do not have time on our side. This is our LAST chance. Don't give up. We must act now.

If massive voter fraud has occured as alleged by so many, and if the state vote counts include these FRAUDULENT votes, then is it logical to say that the entire state vote is COMPROMISED and can't be trusted? 59,000,000 Americans might agree!

The state vote is used to determine the allocation of Electors in the Electoral College which actually elects the President and Vice President.

If the vote count is FRAUDULENT, FLAWED, and CAN'T BE TRUSTED - and if the Electors have been FRAUDULENTLY allocated based on FLAWED vote counts - then WE CANNOT ALLOW THE GOVERNORS TO SIGN THEIR CERTIFICATES of ASCERTAINMENT on December 17th. We can stop this if we ACT IMMEDIATELY.

We want Republican leaders to champion our tea party issues. But they can’t. They don’t know how.

since the rat party is the anti-freedom party of statism and socialism, they could start by explaining the benefits of freedom.

they could talk about Freedom vs Tyranny and remind Americans what Freedom looks like and there is a path back to it, here is the first step.

Benefits of freedom:

1) freedom is the foundation of both personal safety and personal security and safety which are necessary for personal well being and self-preservation.
2) freedom is the foundation of peace
3) freedom makes it possible for an individual to be able to act on their own rational judgment and to be motivated to do what is in their own true interests.
4) freedom makes it possible for an individual to be able to benefit from the rational judgments, choices, and actions of others with whom they deal
5) freedom makes it possible to be motivated by the use and disposal of private property
6) freedom is the foundation of laissez-faire capitalism

The 2010 Florida Senate race was the ultimate in case studies on this topic. An upstart retired state representative challenged the sitting governor. The powers-that-be financed the governor. The base rallied behind the upstart. At the beginning, he was under 20% in the primary polling. All the smart people said the governor was the guy to back and the only one that could win the general election.

Despite that the upstart took a commanding lead and the governor than dropped out. He then announced an independent run as the only guy who could go to Washington and ‘work with both sides’. Despite that, the GOP base candidate destroyed BOTH the Democrat candidate (a likable congressman), and the sitting governor in debates and eventually in the election.

That is the power of conservative solutions.

Part of the problem is, that we all know that there are places where the Democrat candidate could very easily receive 100% of the vote. It’s not a surprise to us. The question should be “Why does this not surprise us?” What can we do to change these voters minds? Do we have to cede the Democrats certain parts of our population? I think we’re just lazy. Maybe lazy isn’t the right word. Distracted? Winning is money for the Democrats. That must mean that losing costs us money. Can it be that the Democrats care more about money than the Republicans?

Bottom line, though. The Tea Party people refused to get behind a single candidate.

You are absolutely correct. Romney was a bad candidate but he was the party's candidate because conservatives could not unite behind a viable alternative. It was not his money, media support or a GOP-E conspiracy. It was our failure to unite. As long as we continue to fall in love with our individual favorites while demonizing anyone we don't agree with 100 percent, we will continue to have the same results. Simple math: Conservative vote divided by 5 vs Moderate vote divided 1 = Moderate (Romney) Candidate. Divided and demoralized Republican Party vs United Democrat Party = Democrat President.

As patriot08 and other FReepers continue to remind us, Moseley's discussion about how Republicans can win elections is moot without the Tea Party's addressing how to shore up the integrity of the election process itself.

Tea Party folks and all true conservatives must push for an agenda to clean up the election process, because failure to do so will make it impossible for any conservative, regardless of his or her popularity or how well his or her campaign message is received, to achieve national (and, in many instances, statewide) office.

Here ar some issues that state legislators should be working on to provide free and fair elections:

Introduce voter photo ID cards whenever possible, which will allow a voter to vote once and only once in any given election.

Require documentation of American citizenship for all voter registrants.

Repeal early voting, Motor Voter, and same day registration where they exist.

Revise enforcement procedures to give meaningful criminal punishment to those who vote when ineligible or who vote more than once in the same election, and to schemers who encourage others to do so.

Give meaningful criminal punishment to "friends" or other operatives who vote for the mentally impaired or demented.

Secure all electronic vote recording and tabulating devices, such as optical scanners and touch screen systems, against hacking, and see to it that hackers are dealt with severely by the law.
