Debbie Stabenow on ABC provided the first real laugh out loud line I have heard in a long time, when she argued that a hige cost savings will come from reducing the Medicare overpayments to insurance company.

For the last year plus, I have been directly involved in the refunding of overpayments from insurance companies, Medicaid accross several states, and Medicare. If Debbie thinks that reducing overpayments is going to be a major reduction in spending, somebody needs to explain to her that overpayements are already being refunded. And the government cashes the checks. Is she saying that the refunds are going into a special slush fund instead of being recycled through the Medicare process?

Why didn’t you go to work for them? How about now...ha?

I didn’t have the credentials. That’s PhD City. I was just a slug reporter.

I do wish that someday we could all meet in a room and agree to stop using the word “capitalism”—and refer to free markets instead.

Right! I'm long since there.

I've gotten myself in trouble even right here on FR for making that very point. My contention was that "capitalism" is a derogatory invective coined by Marx to demonize Economic Freedom.

A freedom that has been slowly withering from constant attack for over 100 years, right here in the US.

Rod, I just did a casual search and did not see anything where Heritage backed obamacare. Maybe AARP? (for sure!).

Rush promotes them all the time. Probably a aponsor. I think/hope they are the good guys

I used to think that Heritage was a good group then I learned they went for obamacare and other stuff I could never support.

Well, I visited there in the 1980s. It was in the 1990s they toyed with government health care concepts—they’ve never supported Obamacare. Their approach didn’t really take off back then though Rodham probably used it at some point during her kubuki dance as first lady.

Everybody gets something wrong somewhere along the way. Even the best. In any case, the place felt like “home” in a way no other place in DC ever did.

Its here.Back in the late 80’s. Seems they may have had a change of mind as well.My first alert to it was also here on FR.There were a few other issues as well can’t come up with them right now.
You have a good point though. If Hannity and Rush are big supporter they are probably OK.

as Rush so adeptly says they are useless.

Useless!?

They are the enemy of the American people. Possibly the most dangerous we've ever faced.

I’ve learned to be very careful here. Every time I think I know something about something I am often proved wrong.I will look and see if there is anything else.

Americans have over time routinely adopted the language of the Left. I do it, you do it, we all do it. The media deluges us with an insane run of metaphors and imprecise language every day—they pick up most of it from government. Even the phrase “the economy” is more metaphor than fact. What is “the economy?”

I could go on.

I always loved that line in All The President’s Men where Deep Throat deplores the inexactitude of the press. I wish I could remember it verbatim. It always gives me a chuckle because it is so very right. And I should know having been the perpetrator so many times myself.

But you’re right on this one. Heritage did pursue single payer health care in white papers and such in the 1990s and I think Newt was advocating it back then too.

I just can’t crucify either for being wrong on this one thing one time long ago, that’s all.

Hey Bray. After reading your post I found a couple of websites in your neck of the woods writing about this incident. You must have hit some nerves out there. The writings were the typical liberal missive. We Conservatives are brain dead, lead around by the nose by right wing radio and have no clue how the world works. After reading a few of the articles it became apparent that you hit the nail right on the head. They don’t like being called what they really are. Communists. Keep the faith Bray.

Well yea. I found the WSJ attack on a Heritage think tanker for trying to extricate himself from a flip-flop. The old circular firing squad as we have recently witnessed in Oregon, it seems.

The think tanker even cited Milton Friedman as considering individual mandate a good thing.

Hopefully it is where we all are NOW and in which direction we are pointed.

What is “the economy?”

As far as I'm concerned: It's the private property of We The People. The only reason that government can be considered to be participating in the economy, is how much private property they're stealing from the citizens.

I do it, you do it, we all do it.

I do my damnedest not to fall prey to that. I proudly sport an "I don't believe the liberal media" bumper sticker on my tank.

I see the movement of DeMint as being a sign of things to come.

To that end, I am creating a list of planks for the soon-to-be Tea Party. Y’all can contribute your own thoughts for consideration.

FIRST-ANYBODY WHO COMPLAINS THE MEDIA IS BIASED CANNOT BELONG TO THE TEA PARTY!!!

Oh yeah, I know the media is biased and YOU know the media is biased. Let’s not cluck our collective tongues anymore, let’s just all agree that the current Mainstream media is biased and let them have their way. Being biased is NOT against the law. Sitting around and complaining about stuff does no good. DOING something about it is the way to go.

Which leads me to plank #2: The Tea Party shall have a Minister of Propaganda, let’s not call it anything else, let us nominate and elect someone whose only job is to each and every day mine the big newspapers, the major media and the Talk shows and rebut each and every stupid talking point those dolts repeat. The Minister of Propeganda (again, we will call it THAT so we have our own like THEY have a bunch and so that every time we mention OUR Minister of Propeganda we imply that they too are ministers of propaganda. Which they are.) will distribute the Tea Party talking points and guests on the major Blogs or Breitbart....that sort...will have rebuttals against the lamestream Ministers of Propaganda.

Finally, for now, I want somebody appointed, maybe under the “transparent gubmint” act, who is in charge of figuring out where all these gubmint numbers they throw at us come from.

Lookie, every time I started a new job, I NEVER took a darn soul’s word for the origins of the numbers on the financial statements, size of payroll, whatever numbers they might spout. Just as soon as they said that income was such and such, or expenses were such...I tell them to let me see.

I print out the General Ledger detail if I had to, and I’d question every number that made no sense to me. In my lifetime I’ve found many, many errors. Never just accept what someone “tells” you is fact.

Because working and figuring and planning based on bad numbers is simply stupid.

For one example, though I’ve got plenty, where the hell do they get those unemployment numbers come from? As I understand, the major payroll services, such as ADP, are major contributors to that report. I want the Tea Party auditor to see how ADP gets their numbers (did payroll all my life, I KNOW how it’s figured) and I want the auditor to take a real close look at what those boobs in the congressional budget office do with the numbers.

It’s time for us to know where they are figured come from and that’s high on my list for the new Tea Party.

Somebody tell Jim DeMint to call me.

The TEAparty already exists in its best form; inside another party.

The quickest way to destroy it would be to turn it into an actual party structure, another one of a hundred “third parties”.

They need to get rid of Boner and replace him with a sharp TEApublican.

Mr. Lobster,

I accept your position though I totally disagree with it.

Back when I was a Union Representative (”Well Pat, sometimes the company IS right...” to my queries) the greatest phrase I learned, the phrase that righted a tilted world, a phrase that settles everything and should be used way more often: “WE SHALL AGREE TO DISAGREE”.

Amen.
