Just when you thought yesterday’s dismal jobs numbers couldn’t get any worse -- they did. According to CNSNews.com, nearly seventy-five percent of all civilian jobs created since the beginning of last summer are in the public sector:
Seventy-three percent of the new civilian jobs created in the United States over the last five months are in government, according to official data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In June, a total of 142,415,000 people were employed in the U.S, according to the BLS, including 19,938,000 who were employed by federal, state and local governments.
By November, according to data BLS released today, the total number of people employed had climbed to 143,262,000, an overall increase of 847,000 in the six months since June.
In the same five-month period since June, the number of people employed by government increased by 621,000 to 20,559,000. These 621,000 new government jobs created in the last five months equal 73.3 percent of the 847,000 new jobs created overall.
I’m not an economist but these breathtaking statistics seem to suggest that the private sector is evidently not -- in the words of the president --“doing fine.” And with his “signature” (i.e., job killing) legislative achievement slated to go into full effect during his second term -- it’s rather hard to imagine it'll be doing any better anytime soon.
Unfortunately this article is misleading. They did not use “Seasonally Adjusted”. The government gain is mostly school teachers (none in June, lots in September. The govt number reported in the news is typically the “Seasonal” number. I am not sure why they are considered unemployed since they are paid all summer, but that is the story.
It actually would be interesting to see what percentage were federal, what percentage were state, and what percentage were municipal.
Don’t forget that GM worked at full tilt for 3 months, and now have 4 1/2 months stockpile of pickup trucks (and similar stockpiles of other vehicles). So, unless sales far outstrip expectations, you can expect GM layoffs in a few weeks.

Note Jefferson's very last thought here. He declares that when government taxing and debt have reached certain levels, in order for individuals to survive, then their chosen "employment" becomes "hiring ourselves to rivet their (the government's) chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers." Might that account for why it is government employment levels which have risen at such great rates in the past 2 years?
Inasmuch as government creates no wealth and has no money, the pay for every job in government must first come out of the pockets of hardworking citizens in the private sector or be borrowed (to be paid back eventually from the pockets of future generations).
Ahhh, guess that's what you call "redistributing" wealth! In Jefferson's words, it's called "rivet(ing) chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers."
I wonder if this is Pharoah Barry Benghazi’s “big civilian army” he told us that he was going to build back in 2008.
I suspected the Obama Regime was doing this to improve their job numbers before the election.
Since there’s no real new money out there in gov’t bank accounts these folks are gonna be disappointed when they find out their imaginary new jobs have been seasonally de-adjusted a little later.
