TOP 10 EXCERPTS FROM ZIMMERMAN VS. NBC NEWS COMPLAINT
Breitbart ^ | December 7, 2012 | John Sexton

Posted on 12/08/2012 1:58:08 PM PST by Uncle Chip

On Thursday, George Zimmerman filed suit against NBC News and three NBC producers he accuses of intentionally painting him as a racist. Zimmerman and his attorneys have now done what many in the new media only dream of doing, holding the major media responsible for their biased and misleading output.

The language in the complaint is blunt. It calls NBC's coverage "yellow journalism" and refers to "journalistic crimes." Most broadly, the complaint accuses NBC of trumping up a racism narrative for ratings, with a name check of the Today Show and Rev. Al Sharpton in particular. Here are some of the highlights or, if you prefer, the media's lowlights from the complaint:

1] NBC saw the death of Trayvon Martin not as a tragedy but as an opportunity to increase ratings, and so set about to create the myth that George Zimmerman was a racist and predatory villain. Their goal was simple: keep their viewers alarmed, and thus always watching, by menacing them with a reprehensible series of imaginary and exaggerated racist claims.

2] NBC created this false and defamatory mis-impression using the oldest form of yellow journalism: manipulating Zimmerman's own words, splicing together disparate parts of the recording to create the illusion of statements that Zimmerman never actually made.

3] Defendants pounced on the Zimmerman/Martin matter because they knew this tragedy could be, with proper sensationalizing and manipulation, a racial poweder keg that could result in months, if not years, of topics for their failing news programs, particularly the plummeting ratings for their ailing Today Show.

I agree with that and with the points in the brief. Furthermore NBC was trying to gin up a race war.

Pat Caddell called it. Do you believe it yet?

I was shocked that Santorum’s advisors did not see the race hate set up going on in the media against Zimmerman. How small and ignorant, espeically for a “conservative” politican!

I knew as soon as the white/black hate thing started, the Left was at work for Obama’s gun control. It was an effort to pit racial minorities and soft headed white women (self hating liberals) against “white male” gun laws. It made for great ratings, too.

Leftists win when they can pit minority races against the white race; class against class, religion against religion; women against men. They thrive on doctrines of race and sex hate and envy - intolerance.

Every part and action of human life, to a leftist, is politics. If we had equality under the law and a constitution, they would not get away with it and stop doing it. We are supposed to have the constitutional right to self defense and to possess guns but socialists don’t respect it. They want all rights destroyed.

“....and then gut the whole, stinking organization like a trout, parting it out like an old Chevy til there’s nothing left.....then raze their headquarters, salt the ground, and retire in luxury while former NBC’ers send out resume’s by the thousands.”

Yes, that was the intent and hire conservative journalists and make it somewhere to the right of Faux News. :-)

Given what they have done to this man, a monetary settlement is appropriate. I am not a person who sues. I have had several oppurtunities in my life but I have not sued. In this case I would sue. Zimmerman was maligned. Of that there is no question. The millions of dollars NBC made should not go into their coffers. It should go to Zimmerman. They should not gain from their filth.

The old saying was, a picture is worth a thousand words.

The new saying is, a picture is worth 10 million dollars.

The media described Zimmerman first as "white," then as "white Hispanic," in order to portray him as a racist. It came out later that one of his grandmothers was half-black, so he is one-eighth of African ancestry (the same amount as Homer Plessy of the landmark Plessy v. Ferguson case in the 1890s in which the Supreme Court OK'd the "separate but equal" doctrine). Of course in the US "Hispanic" negates "African" but it makes it implausible that Zimmerman would be prejudiced against black people...so the media has ignored that angle.

All the information that has come out recently was known to the prosecution all along...and they are still stalling on handing over evidence to the defense. Why hasn't the defense been given a good recording of the interview with Dee Dee, when her testimony was critical to Corey's decision to make it a charge of second-degree murder?

The prosecution may still be hoping they can get an "O.J. jury" which will decide the case purely on race.

That’s great the Beasley firm has deep pockets. But will Zimmerman wait it out? I’ve read he and his wife have money problems.

Another problem with waiting it out is that the law firm reaps most of the money. Most of Richard Jewell’s payout went to the lawyers, and that was with a settlement.

Sure, we want Zimmerman to financially decimate these media whores, but little guys like Zimmerman need the money especially with his mounting legal fees.

He's kind of a strange guy and an old school Democrat but he's honest, passionate and believes what he says. Very smart too. I trust him more than I do a lot of Republican pundits.

When NBC gets it thru it's head that it is a “NEWS” organization, not an opinion station, they will do o.k. It should be illegal to call it a “NEWS” entity if they try to color the article with their personal opinion.

That is what makes this calculatingly interesting.

Usually the civil trial takes place after the criminal trial, but in this case they are running concurrently.

The longer the criminal trial goes, the higher will be the demands against NBC and they know it.

Meanwhile the longer the trial goes the more discovery takes place under the subpoena power of the state that can be sifted into the civil action.

It’s a win win for Zimmerman’s side and a lose lose for the state and NBC.

The state thought that it could stall and drag this thing out and bankrupt GZ into a plea deal, but with that big NBC bank waiting at the end of the rainbow that they will eventually tap into, what’s to lose???

Especially when the best parts are coming up — the depositions of Crump, Tracey, Sybrina, DeeDee — that will give them more discovery to use against NBC.

Besides a cash penalty, NBC should be required to have a scrolling apology at the bottom of the screen .. at least 10 percent high of the screen , and running 24/7 for at least one year...

What NBC will do is offer a ton on money, ON CONDITION
that the amount be kept confidential; AND that
Zimmerman not badmouth NBC or talk about his
treatment by NBC thereafter.

IOW, a huge settlement (a bribe) to keep quiet.

OTHERWISE, NBC will use its battalion of lawyers (and its friends on the bench and throughout the government) to see that
his suit takes years and years and years to get through the courts, and gets whittled down to next to nothing;

so that his grandchildren MIGHT collect a little out of the case.

(For informative comparisons, examine what has happened to the suits filed by the Duke lacrosse players).

Our legal system—both criminal and civil—is a sick joke.

(Doesn’t have to be, but in its current incarnation, it is.)

I hope that the "settlement" is enough to make NBC's stockholders cry.

Zimmerman's life as he knows it is over. WHEN he's acquitted, he's going to be looking over his shoulder every moment for the rest of his life, lest some "aggreived minority" decides to exact "justice".

How much would you put in $ terms for that kind of paranoia?

You couldn't pay me enough.

And for GZ,the "enough" better be so much that he can afford protection for the rest of his life.
