Unemployment Plunges to 3.8% for Government Workers; Government Adds 35,000 Jobs in November
CNS News ^ | 12/07/2012 | Terence Jeffrey

The unemployment rate for civilian government workers plunged from 4.2 percent in October to 3.8 percent in November, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as government added 35,000 to its taxpayer-funded payrolls during the month.

In October, federal, state and local governments in the United States employed 20,524,000 people. In November, that climbed to 20,559,000.

As recently as July, the unemployment rate for government workers was as high as 5.7 percent, according to the BLS. That month, government employed only 20,015,000.

Since July, times have been very good for government in the United States, with governments managing to add 544,000 workers to their payrolls.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics counts someone as a government worker if they are not in the military and they are currently employed by any level of government—local, state or federal—or they are unemployed, they are looking for work, and their last job was for any level of government.

How can they classify government workers are unemployed? For instance, if you’re unemployed, regardless of the industry, you’re unemployed. But how can you classify someone as unemployed in/from the government? This doesn’t make any sense to me.

Are they saying that unemployed persons who were former government employees account for only 3.8% of total unemployed?

I've said they'll soon classify those receiving unemployment checks as employed by the government, then the figures will look real good.

Power-hungry, so-called "progressives" have brought us to the state of affairs described over 200 years ago by Thomas Jefferson.

Yes, it is "progressives" who have taken America back to the Old World ideas which preceded the great experiment in ordered liberty, bringing America to its knees before the world under a regime which pretends to "take care of" us.

Thomas Jefferson warned Americans:

"To preserve [the] independence [of the people,] we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds, as the people of England are, our people, like them, must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses, and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they now do, on oatmeal and potatoes, have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account, but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers." --Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Kercheval, 1816. ME 15:39

Note Jefferson's very last thought here. He declares that when government taxing and debt have reached certain levels, in order for individuals to survive, then their chosen "employment" becomes "hiring ourselves to rivet their (the government's) chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers." Might that account for why it is government employment levels which have risen at such great rates in the past 2 years?

Inasmuch as government creates no wealth and has no money, the pay for every job in government must first come out of the pockets of hardworking citizens in the private sector or be borrowed (to be paid back eventually from the pockets of future generations).

Ahhh, guess that's what you call "redistributing" wealth! In Jefferson's words, it's called "rivet(ing) chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers."

TSA at my Airport went on a MASSIVE hiring spree starting back in July.

They now have so many people, they have no idea what to do with them. At times, they have four “Strollers” in each concourse, with no passengers there, at all.

And this is just a medium-sized, mostly RJ airport. Your tax dollars at work saving Obama’s reelection. Hopey-changey, suckers.

The unemployment rate for civilian government workers plunged from 4.2 percent in October to 3.8 percent in November

can someone please help me on this ?
If I have a hundred electricians and only 3 aren't working,, 3% of electricians are unemployed.

What profession is a civilian gov. worker ? (non-military\non-elected ?)..how does one get classified a gov. worker ? If the unemployed gov. worker is an electrician, is he\she counted twice ? If he\she goes back to work for an employer that is NOT the gov., do the feds still consider them an unemployed gov. worker ?

my head is starting to hurt...there must be a simple explanation.

So 3.8% are unemployed. Of the 96.2% how many are working?

Spectacular quote. It's being incorporated into my portfolio.

Government employment must include all people who receive direct of indirect compensation from taxpayers - including the military industrial complex (e.g. contractors) - plus university employees, lobbyists, "non-governmental agencies", private regulators enforcing public laws... and the list goes on...

Do you all realize this is it? This IS the victory for the people who hate freedom. What can you do when the government is employing so many people? You can’t cut it and it can’t be supported. No one is going to vote themselves out of a job. This is it. Things are going to start to domino very quickly, bullets will fly, blood will be spilled.

I don’t like it but there is absolutely nothing that can be done to stop it. Look to the Lord.

I have an even better idea. The Federal budget is approaching, if it hasn't already passed, $4 trillion dollars. The Federal government has more money than any business or rich person in the world.

I say the Congress should pass a law taxing the Federal government at 50%. Why not? It doesn't pay a dime in taxes under current law, and has enough money to erase the deficit easily.

We need to tax the Federal government immediately to provide needed programs to the poor, to erase the deficit, and to prevent us from going over the fiscal cliff.

I'm sure there are 0bama voters out there that are stupid enough to run with the idea above.

The parasite class is growing more powerful. The vast majority of bureaucrats in government (state, local, fed) not only do absolutely nothing to increase the wealth of our country. In reality they undertake actions to purposely destroy our prosperity.

When, not if, the economy collapses, I hope that the parasitic bureaucratic political class is brutally destroyed -- They must lose their fake jobs, their real pensions and their property. They must be left impoverished and living on the streets.

And they are prepared with plenty of ammo:

Obama now has his private army, and put together on our watch..by Fred Brownbill.

Big Sis Janet Napolitano and the Obama private army working under ICE, has placed an HUGE order for 450,000,000 (YES..MILLION) rounds of 40 caliber ultra high performance optimum penetration for terminal performance rounds from Defense contractors ATK.

They also have an open order for 175 million rounds of .223 caliber rifle rounds.

*snip*

Is this the private army that President Barack Hussein Obama said and promised that he would form when running for president, which would be as well equipped and trained as the regular army?  If so, he has it now and it was all done on our watch...

Population of the USA Dec 7, 2012: 314,895,000. Pretty much could do a double tap.

I’d like to understand how if you are unemployed you become a government worker. If you ain’t got a job you are simply unemployed. A government worker is working for a government someplace. If that person looses a job they are no longer a government worker. So how do you come up with 3.8% of them?
