Why not in New York? (Bringing technology manufacturing to new York)
NY Daily News ^ | december 7, 2012

On the very day that Apple announced it will begin building more computers in the United States, a who’s who of the business world called for a major push to educate the next generation of technology workers.

Speaking at a forum sponsored by the Daily News and U.S. News & World Report, IBM Vice President Stanley Litow projected that the so-called STEM fields — science, technology, engineering and math — will spawn 14 million new jobs in the near future.

But Google Chairman Eric Schmidt warned that the American education system will need a “massive overhaul” for America’s young people to qualify for the positions.

This is not science fiction or futuristic thumb-sucking. It’s the urgent, here-and-now reality of a global economy increasingly driven by scientific innovation and technological talent.

Abroad, up-and-coming countries like China and India are grooming armies of ambitious, well-educated scientists and engineers — and eating our lunch, particularly when it comes to high-tech manufacturing.

Take Apple, for example. The company builds most of its products in China, not just because of cheap labor — which is becoming more expensive by the day — but also because the Chinese workforce offers advanced technological capabilities.

Now, Apple CEO Tim Cook says he intends to insource some Mac manufacturing to America. He hasn’t specified a site, but New York can only dream that Cook would engage a local partner.

Reason not to: Unions, unions, unions, taxes, taxes, taxes.

Plus: corruption, corruption, corruption. Regulation, regulation, regulation. Liberals, liberals, liberals. Crime, crime, crime. Apart from those things, it's a great place to do business.

Because you’ll tax the bejeezus out of them, and the union goons will rob them.

Sure, why not New York.

It’s funny when Liberals cannot figure out why businesses don’t want to establish themselves in high tax states.

Why would any company want to invest in a pit of sewage?

I understand that lots of people and companies are heading out for less taxable states. Last NY governor was happy that Rush Limbaugh left because of high taxes. He said if knew that he would have raised them sooner/higher. Morons.

They make it sound like they’re going to start actually manufacturing components here. From what I understand they’re going to import the components and just assemble the computers here. It’ll still raise the cost and lower the quality but it’s not any high-tech venture.

“New York, like California, but with Shittier Weather and NO earthquakes!

We Californians know all about New York, because a lot of the current crop of politicians here came from there. Can you say Barbara Boxer, Brooklyn, NY for openers!

That’s rich. IBM is a big player in helping US businesses outsource offshore.

NY State govt. actually does not want biz here -they just want the taxes- they do everything to drive you crazy with inspectors showing up all the time terrorizing you like Gestapo, making up stupid rules about your own business that they seem they want to run it themselves, and you spend more time trying to figure out their paperwork than you do paying attention on making money in your business. It`s a crooked state govt. here since I remember in the 1940`s still til now.

Because New York is a closed shop state with the highest individual tax rate in the country, edging out even California?

Move it to the South. Lower taxes, lots of willing hands, right to work, and low cost of living.

“Half of America’s high schools don’t offer calculus, and 40% don’t give physics classes”—could this be? Wow?

Any FReepers have local high schools that don’t make it to the physics or calculus level?

Don’t worry IBM Vice President Stanley Litow and Google Chairman Eric Schmidt, Hillary’s pet company Tata, an Indian body shop, will import all the dirt cheap H-1B/s you need.
