PHILADELPHIA Like many of his third-grade classmates, Mario Cortez-Pacheco likes reading the Magic Tree House series, about a brother and a sister who take adventurous trips back in time. He also loves the popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid graphic novels.
But Mario, 8, has noticed something about these and many of the other books he encounters in his classroom at Bayard Taylor Elementary here: most of the main characters are white. I see a lot of people that dont have a lot of color, he said.

Well then he should look at the President of Mexico who looks pretty white also.
You'll get books where all of the characters are Hispanic and gay.
Pander, pander, pander
If “Mario” was back in his homeland everyone would look just like him
If we could just rid the world of white people (except gays and super rich liberals), the world would be a must happier place, more stable and undoubtedly more profitable. And by white people, I mean specifically males. Sarcasm over.
These people are relentless.
Oh, give me a break. If they want “brown” kids in kids books, then they need to tell their parents not to leave Latin countries.
If I moved to Mexico, I expect I’d find it hard to find many blondes in kids books...boohoo!!!
Are they kidding? There isnt a book created for kids especially textbooks that dont have the mandatory black brown yellow red and white characters.
You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You’ve got to be carefully taught!

He's not famous for his skin color.
Uh oh....is that comparing Latinos to monkeys? Somebody better call the SPLC, quick!
About ten years ago, I was with my little nephew, and I remember watching some dopey TV show/network. In a skit, a girl who was likely 10-13 years old, pulled down the pants of a boy and a laugh track followed. Imagine if a boy stripped a girl. That is minor to what is happening in the continues denigration of our society.
continued (not continues)
Well, that’s just rough there kiddo.
If you go to Espana you will see your progenitors are actually a bunch of white people with brown eyes. In fact, large portions of Spain were once dominated by the Moors and dem peeps is straight up white.
Got a friend who is whiter than me and of Mexican descent but, has Moorish blood in her.
I remember coming across a cable sitcom n the 90s where step brother and step sister ended up in the shower having “not sex-sex”...
ugh
then by all means, crack the whip on colored writers to write more colored books...
Hm, if only they taught history: the tail of Santa Anna and the Alamo comes to mind... followed by the tail of The Battle of San Jacinto.
send them coloring books, they can make the characters black, brown, purple, pink, green or whatever color they want
The content of the shows is horrible but those actor kids are being sexualized in real life
“But Mario, 8, has noticed something about these and many of the other books he encounters in his classroom at Bayard Taylor Elementary here: most of the main characters are white. I see a lot of people that dont have a lot of color, he said.”
8 year-olds don’t think that way. It’s taught to them by their racist parents and teachers.
Shows like MTV “Skins” where they had actual minors naked and doing sex scenes.
Then supposedly innocent shows like “ICarly” where the actresses are naked on set, for real. Needlessly and pointlessly...

She was about 16
BINGO!!!
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Calling all successful Mexican (black, asian etc) children’s authors and Mexican (black, asian etc.) illustrators and Mexican (black, asian) colorists....The children need you
It seems that once again all us white folks have missed a great opportunity.
While the Blacks and Mexican people attended Obama's campaign rallies, we should have broken into their homes and gotten all our shit back.**
it's for the chilren...
He can laugh, he’s dead... we still have to live here temporarily and it’s not funny any more. Yet.
I call BS. An 8-year old would not say that.
Unfortunately I suspect that this Mario kid has been programmed this way in real life.

Geeez. Eight years old and already an ignorant little racist bigot. He’s going to have one hell of a career ahead of him as a murdering gangbanger.
Capitalism is amazing. Maybe someone will write some books about pink and blue children going on adventures, and maybe someone will publish these books without pictures but with graphic descriptions of skin color. And maybe the millions of pink and blue families will purchase the books so it will be worth the cost of production for the publisher.
So I guess the people putting out Dora the explorer, Go Diego Go, Handy Manny, etc., haven’t put out any books.
Funny this article never mentions that most of Spanish language TV and media is mainly full of white, European, non-Mestizo, non-Mullato, non-Black people
Mexican TV is even more racist....Mexico is over 90% Mestizo, but most of the actors on Mexican TV shows are very European...many have non-Spanish surnames
This article is nothing but anti-White, anti-Anglo, Hispanic Ku Klux Klan racism. There is so much more racism in the Spanish community than in the White Anglo community
Make it right? I think what you want to do is lie to people. It's the s.o.s. our educational system has been doing for, at least, thirty years. Trying to lifting one group by devaluing the contributions of white Americans. Tell these children the truth. Their ancestors turned their countries into third world cesspools, so their parents left and came here. They bypassed about thirty Spanish speaking countries in the Western Hemisphere to get to one of two English speaking countries. If you don't tell people the truth they'll never learn from the mistakes of others.
Why can't a black or hispanic kid imagine themselves to be English? Or Ancient Roman? Or a wizard?
Or, even if they read Babar, to be an elephant?
But Mario, 8, has noticed something about these and many of the other books he encounters in his classroom at Bayard Taylor Elementary here: most of the main characters are white
Well yes. You are in America. Not Africa or Mexico. Then factor in that most of the writers are white and well....
Let’s not forget the Battle of Gonzales. One of the best flags in American history!
I thought the Texicans took his LEG?
Or perhaps you meant tale, LOL!
Unfortunately there IS an image missing in all readers that the schools buy and that is a family ie husband and wife raising their kids.
Maybe the future gang member doesn’t understand that the reason “white” people are in the majority of what he is reading is for the fact that this country was founded by “white” people and that most of the inventions we enjoy in today’s society were invented by “white” people.
As a matter of fact, “white” people used to be the majority in this country before his “brown” people invaded us from the south.
Just sayin’
You are in part wrong.
I would advise you to read up on the founding of Texas. There were many Mexicans involved in the revolution that gained freedom from Mexico. When you visit the shines of the Republic of Texas founding, there are old line Mexican Spanish families that played a significant role in the founding.
The same is true in New Mexico and California. If you recall, Zorro, a semimythical character was actually of Spanish heritage. California was founded by Spanish
Maybe the problem is that today’s school libraries engage in censorship. In the 1960s (when I was in elementary school) I read books like:
And Now Miguel?
Call It Courage
The King’s X
Paddle to The Sea.
Lots of books about kids of color — Asian, Hispanic, Native American, African, Pacific Islander. Good reads, if not necessarily hewing to the political correct mores of today. Wonder what happened to them?
.......Paddle to The Sea.......
And don’t forget “The Tree In The Trail”
Sometime back actually I visited the starting point of Paddle to the Sea and traced the route as far as lake Michigan.
I purchased a used copy of Paddle to the Sea on Amazon for my grandson and it is in the library I am making for him.
> The tail of Santa Ana?
> I thought the Texicans took his LEG?
> Or perhaps you meant tale, LOL!
Good catch.
This should teach me mot to post with a kitty begging for attention on my lap!
(Get your tail out of my face!)
Your argument fails once people realize Spain is in...wait for it...Europe...and just chock full of White people.
So to be an “old line” Spanish family is to be a family of White people.
