Pentagon now preparing for massive cuts as fiscal negotiations appear stalled

The Pentagon said Wednesday it is now preparing for billions of dollars in budget cuts should President Obama and congressional Republicans fail to reach an alternative plan by Jan. 1.

The move breaks from earlier statements that no plans were being made – a signal that difficulties reaching a deal are beyond the public stalemate or so-called “political theater” and that Washington officials are bracing for the worst.

Pentagon spokesman George Little said the Office of Management and Budget instructed the department to begin preparing for the roughly $500 billion cuts over the next 10 years – a situation resulting from both sides failing earlier to reach a more measured approach to cutting the country’s roughly $16 trillion deficit.

Another line from the piece:

"The Pentagon has yet to tell defense contractors about possible plans to eliminate programs or contracts."

There will be a lot of jobs lost and contractors going out of business.

Perhaps this is part of Obama's promise to the Russians, about being more 'flexible.'

The only cuts we will ever see under Obama is from sequestration. And even then he will spend anyway, with EO’s, regulation and such.... just not quite as much.

Just what the left has wanted for many years. Not to worry, the ruling elite will always be safe should we be attacked.

We’re either broke or we’re not. And we’re broke.

Don’t sweat it, our military will defend us. Of course, we’ll have to wait for them to come back from all over the rest of the world, but it shouldn’t take too long.

I guess those layoff notices (as per the Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification Act) can go out now that the election is over.

Are these “real world” cuts or Washington style reduction in increases?

"And we’re broke."

Yeah, about 16 times over broke, per some pundits - but, it's more like 35 to 40 times broke - that is, if we can get back to just even within 35 years.

Not to worry though - the grand plan will save us - one world government, one world currency, jack-boot government with machine guns on every corner.

This BS show is only to cover up and place blame on the engineered crash that’s already long under way.

They always pull a similar charade around Christmas about something - the difference this time is it is about our very survival.

If they did go into January this way....by summer of 2013, it’d be a fairly serious fall. You can figure in the DC region....at least 30k contractors and 10k GS workers in the first year from across various agencies/departments. Even if you survive the first year....there’s likely another cut in the spring of 2014 to occur.

So watch for massive housing issues in DC by the end of 2013 as people just hand the keys over and walk away because they will not be getting another job to match the former payscale. If the White House thinks it’s not a big deal...they probably guessed wrong.

There are ways that you could have come out over a ten-year period and done a simple budget cut each year and allowed people to retire or reshape the economy. This is not a simple cut...it will have a serious impact for the next four years.

The word is spreading fast among the small businesses in the DC region that have support service contracts with DOD and its various agencies.

Layoffs have happened ~

Maybe now they can close some of those bases they’ve been wanting to close, but Congress wouldn’t let them.

” the ruling elite will always be safe should we be attacked.”

Spirited: They are insane and have no sense of the terrible consequences that will befall them when finally they’ve managed to immolate their own people and societies. Who will take them in and protect them? The Chinese? Russians? Koreans? No, no, and no.

Actually you don’t see programs ended, you just see this huge salami slice of the same % of funding cut from each and every program and budget line.
