In a report on the GOP's half of the Fiscal Cliff debate, The Hill claimed there was no opposition to Republican House Speaker John Boehner's sudden caving in to President Obama's demand that tax hikes accompany any solutions to the budget mess.
The Hill reported on December 4 that the GOP was "moving reluctantly toward a debt deal that would increase revenues" and that Speaker Boehner had offered some $800 billion in new taxes in his most recent fiscal cliff proposal.
How could Boehner achieve this flip flopping away from the Party's presumptive principles? The Hill says it's because there aren’t any Republicans opposing the tax hikes.
"The lack of immediate backlash within the conference is a key early sign for Boehner, who has made intraparty unity a priority as he seeks the strongest possible hand in negotiations over the “fiscal cliff” with President Obama"
Of course, there could be a reason for this that The Hill doesn't mention. Boehner is purging all conservatives from his power structure.

Bloody hell, boys, hasn’t anyone heard of the Laffer Curve? Are we going to drive this car into the wall faster thinking we can jump over the cliff?
I think the GOP needs to schedule a press conference with the “teaser-topic” being a “cave-in” on top-bracket tax rates.
Then when all the stooge-media shows up, there should be a series of short speeches — each saying that increasing taxes during our recession will make our recession worse, cause higher unemployment and cause higher inflation!
After each speech, that speaker should — very visibly — wash his hands and dry them.
The last speaker should say something like:
“Unfortunately, President Obama has vowed to raise taxes on the Middle Class if that’s what it takes to “punish” our most successful Americans, just for being successful. And some of us have concluded that this President really DOES want to increase taxes on America’s Middle Class — provided he can blame that result on Republicans.”
“We Republicans do not like playing games of “chicken” with the President. After all, it is America’s Middle Class that will be hurt by his incompetence.”
So we Republicans have decided to give him what he said he wants — a rate increase on the incomes of America’s job-creators. Since we have warned him, we wash our hands of the results. Unemployment will increases to 10% or 11% or 12%, and it will be all — get that, ALL — President Obama’s fault.”
We told him so. We told you so. And we have washed our hands of his foolishness. President Obama now forced this mess on america. Now, he OWNS it.”
“While things go from bad to worse, let’s remember that we fix America with a good start being the election of a Republican-controlled Senate in 2014”.

I suspect the Republicans know that the “raising taxes on the wealthy” is really a ruse for raising all taxes.

Job losses are easy to sell - people see it every day, even if some can't make the connection, because all they keep hearing now from media that the "greedy rich" are laying people off for "more profits" for themselves.
Now stick to the message and keep repeating it every time you are asked or "accused" or "blamed" - "We were not sent here to weaken the already weak economy and choke the weakest recovery on record, and cause more middle class unemployment with higher taxes and premiums falling on middle class due to ObamaCare and proposed Obama's higher tax rates on middle-class job creators."
It's time to retool the message and [re-]define the image that generations of Bushes and Romneys have given the GOP, after a clear and resounding winning conservative messages of Reagan and Gingrich - "... government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem."
Poll after poll clearly say that people are not in favor of Big Government and ObamaCare. Yes, GOP will be "blamed"; but they will be blamed even more (and from both sides) when they lose, for "standing in the way of progress" and caving. The secret to the message sticking is to keep blaming them right back, especially when the facts and the truth is on your side.
Despite "popular" media opinion, Obama didn't come out of these elections stronger - he defeated one of the weakest GOP opponents since George Herbert Walker Bush, who didn't have a positive image or agenda and couldn't make the case for what they wanted to achieve as presidents.
Obama and Democrats cannot afford to go "off the cliff" and expose the pre-Bush Clinton's tax rates which hit middle class the worst, and would really cut their favorite "government charities" ("entitlement" programmes) instead of just giving empty promises to cut their rate of growth in "the future." As time gets closer to "fiscal cliff" Dems will have to put the pressure on Obama or cut the deal with GOP in the Senate without "raising the tax rates on job creators" (this is why Warren Buffett is trying to "raise the floor" to $500K-$1M).

I am not going to forget this when 2014 comes and they come here saying we have no choice but to vote. I’d rather tay home. There is no reason to vote for a party that does this.

Perhaps different imagery would suffice for the TEA party crowd, at least the few who persist.
