“As I resign from all board positions and duties, please see below a list of dispositions on outstanding issues: I expect to be fully compensated through the expiration date (December 31, 2012) of my current consulting contract with FreedomWorks,” he wrote. “Henceforth FreedomWorks shall be prohibited from using my name, image, or signature in any way or for any purpose without my written permission or in the event of my death, without my heirs written permission.”

He asked for his name, image, and signature to be removed from all FreedomWorks materials — “letters, print media, postings, web sites, videos, testimonials, endorsements, fund raising materials, and social media.”

The Associated Press reports that he is leaving “under a secret deal that will pay him $8 million,” representing consulting fees paid in annual $400,000 installments, a payout backed by a conservative financier Richard J. Stephenson, founder and chairman of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Stephenson serves on the FreedomWorks board of directors, and the AP reports the secret deal was cut in September and requires Armey to resign by the end of November.

Armey’s Nov. 29 resignation memo, obtained by Mother Jones, reflects serious unhappiness. He demands the group immediately stop using his name in any way, removing him from all “letters, print media, postings, web sites, videos, testimonials, endorsements, fund raising materials, and social media, including but not limited to Facebook and Twitter.” He also wants his official congressional portrait delivered.

“under a secret deal that will pay him $8 million,”

Well, we know what his incentive was to be at Freedom Works and so, what did he do exactly to merit such a high sum of money?

“Henceforth Freedom Works shall be prohibited from using my name, image, or signature in any way or for any purpose without my written permission or in the event of my death, without my heirs written permission.”

And why would they want to use any part of his persona for any reason? Why all the fanfare?
