Egypt's Mursi Leaves Palace as Police Battle Protesters

(Reuters) - Egyptian police battled thousands of protesters outside President Mohamed Mursi's palace in Cairo on Tuesday, prompting the Islamist leader to leave the building, two presidential sources said.

Police fired teargas at demonstrators angered by Mursi's drive to hold a referendum on a new constitution on December 15. Some broke through police lines around his palace and protested next to the perimeter wall.

Several thousand people had gathered nearby in what they dubbed "last warning" protests against Mursi, who infuriated opponents with a November 22 decree that expanded his powers. "The people want the downfall of the regime," the crowd chanted.

"The president left the palace," a presidential source, who declined to be named, told Reuters. A security source at the presidency also said the president had left the building.

Mursi ignited a storm of unrest in his bid to prevent a judiciary still packed with appointees of ousted predecessor Hosni Mubarak from derailing a troubled political transition.

Nothing is ever going to happen here in the US. Americans believe in the rule of law, and I think it’s going to take a long time for most of us to admit that Obama is the one who doesn’t believe in it. And by that time, it will be too late to protest.

Used to be the the CPUSA and their homosexual COMINTERN buddies would meet in secret.

Now they are in your face, large and in charge, from the WH to the local apparatchik at the county commission.

Any attempt to suppress domestic communism is now branded as hate speech or domestic terrorism.

The Republicans are useless.

It’s time to start developing a strategy to cripple the marxists, and it must be done totally outside of the electoral process through acts of civil disobedience and counter propaganda, with sympathetic State Governors and legislators assisting in the process.

All else fails, the military can fire the scumbags wholesale in all three branches, provisional military government for six months, then new elections (no incumbents need apply) only taxpayers and veterans enfranchised, all amendments repealed except the Bill of Rights, dueling legalized for for members of the House and Senate

Ooooh, nicely quoted, thanks Sir Francis Dashwood!

I do sincerely hope that Mursi’s killed by a surging mob, and after him El Baradei, and thereafter each Muzzie factional leader as they emerge. I would have preferred the Muzzie civil wars to take place in Arabia, so that the entire jihadist population of the Earth would swarm there (with our covert help in the form of one-way plane tickets and terrorist basic training camps once they arrived, then keep all the factions fighting one another until they’ve been bled white.

Then make sure the survivors die of thirst in the Empty Quarter.

But I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Wow, thanks! This guy is demonstrating a knowledge of American colloquial English that’s pretty impressive. I would have thought Egyptian Freepers had landed in the square.

Be that as it may, you can see that this is a protest that takes in a very diverse group of people (communists, feminists, Christians and even Islamic splinter groups such as the Allawites, among others).

I wonder who will be left standing tomorrow? Probably Morsi...

I think if American’s were facing what the Egyptians are...a new constitution that guarantees shariah law....we would get off our couches and rise up. We probably sound like whiners to the Egyptians at this point. Our Dicktator has to move a lot slower than theirs. In other words they have a much bigger fire lit under their a$$.

I wish we had a tenth of the courage of these protestors.

Take away our liquor, wrap up all of our women in burkas, add an ass crack full of sand, lousy food and extreme poverty, and REAL Americans would make these ragheads look like pansy's.

There are two options to solving the raghead problem.

Forced westernization, or genocide.

If Huma’s having an affair with Hillary, Hillary is definitely getting the better end of the deal (Huma’s getting the bigger end).

Why don’t we oppose Mursi as we opposed Mubarak? God forbid they should have a real democracy?

Well, Mubarak was friendly to the US. What is that Arab saying - "The only thing more dangerous than being America's enemy is being their ally".
