Also, IIRC, high powered assault rifles are exactly what the 2nd Amendment had in mind. We used high powered rifles to assault the British troops and kick them and their smoothbore muskets out of the country.

Good point. Piers might want to look up how a few hundred Kentucky rifleman at the Battle of New Orleans held off a vastly superior British force marching against them.
It wasn't so much that the Kentucky rifleman were great shots (although they were) as it was the greater range of weapons they were using.
