Urgent action is needed to boost carbon prices to €150 per tonne ($215.65/ton)—2,250% higher than current levels—if the EU is to meet its decarbonization goals by 2050, the former secretary-general of the UNFCCC has told EurActiv in an interview.

“We very quickly need to see a carbon price in the order of €150 a tonne because that’s the kind of level that drives the price signals that we really need,” Yvo de Boer said on a phone line from Manila, in the Philippines.

EU carbon allowances are currently trading at €6.60 per tonne ($9.49/ton), but a price of around €150 a tonne is often quoted as the minimum needed to incentivize investments in technologies such as carbon capture and storage. …

The Michigan legislature has been doing a lot of good work on limiting land grabs within the state.

2012 House Bill 5785: Ban “Agenda 21” implementation Introduced by Rep. Greg MacMaster (R) on July 18, 2012, to prohibit any Michigan governmental entity from adopting or implementing policy recommendations originating in or traceable to the United Nations “Agenda 21” or any other international laws that infringe or restrict private property rights without due process. Also, to prohibit governments from entering into a contract for services with, paying any money to, or receiving money from a nongovernmental or intergovernmental organizations enlisted to assist in implementing “Agenda 21”. Senate Bill 1276, Restrict setting aside state land for “biological diversity”: Passed 26 to 11 in the Senate To prohibit the Department of Natural Resources from designating an area of land specifically for the purpose of achieving “biological diversity.”

Senate Bill 1238, Revise state land acquisition procedures: Passed 26 to 11 in the Senate To revise the procedures and criteria for the acquisition by the state of property paid for with Natural Resources Trust Fund money. Among other things, the bill would impose term limits on members of the NRTC board, require more transparency in its property selection process, and ban sales if the seller was harassed, intimidated, or coerced by the Department of Natural Resources, a local government, or a “qualified” conservation organization.

Senate Bill 1021, Increase state property tax payments to locals: Passed 25 to 13 in the Senate To increase from $2 per acre to $4 per acre the amount the state pays to local governments as “payment in lieu of (property) taxes” (PILT) on state-owned land in their jurisdictions, and index the amount to inflation going forward.

And why are you in Manila, Yvo de Boer? Who paid the massive carbon penalty you urge upon everyone else? Why didn't you just Skype for whatever meeting or conference you're at?

Because like everything, these are rules for the less equal animals. It is for the creatures that don't know how to best manage everyone else's lives.

I absolutely advocate that everyone who pushes forward these rules must already comply with them before they can even propose it for anyone else.

But of course, that won't happen. German taxpayers might want to take a gander at the benefits and salaries they're giving members of their universities; the carbon savings alone would justify it.

Dot Com bubble *pop*, mortgage bubble *pop* ==> Carbon bubble. The financial world requires ever larger bubbles to inflate to keep the game working. What is missing right now are sufficient assets to back up the gajillions of dollars in existing debt. “They” are trying to create a new asset class to fill the void. The added benefit is that carbon trading just happens to allow total societal control.

OK, so I pay for carbon. Just who am I paying the price to? Is it someone that produced the carbon? Well... no. Is it to someone that “owns” the carbon? Well, I suppose, just as much as paying extortion to any powerful gang is.

A 50% cut goes to big government, the rest to human pigs that vote for bigger government. If the leftists really were concerned about CO2, a free market company could extract CO2 from the air for less than $215.65/ton, but there is not even a thought to use that confiscated wealth to do that.
