States increase school hours: 300 hours added for some students in 2013
examiner.com ^ | Dec. 2, 2012 | Heather Tooley

Participating states include New York, Massachusetts, Colorado, Tennessee, and Connecticut. The decision is all part of an initiative to be more competitive with other nations on a global level... Federal, state, and district funds will afford the increase in school hours along with the Ford Foundation and the National Center on Time and Learning.

Hmm, Ford Foundation.

More tax dollars down the tubes.

Methinks that the unions and the whining teachers won’t go for any more ‘work’.

At least not without the state forking over half their GDP.

This is house manure. The Germans went from about 700: to 1:00.

How about leaving out the curricula which put condoms on vegetables and teach that perversion is normal and spend it on core courses instead? No additional study halls required, and the quality of education can increase.

I was told that the only increases in school hours would be because of Sandy.

I’m glad I’m long out of school. I already put 5 years into high school; that was tough enough for me and I was pretty close to being dropped out. Having to do it again, for a longer period of time would be quite bad.

I had a cousin who only went as far as 9th grade. Long story short, he ended up being a millionaire MANY times over. And I know of a PhD who can’t get a job in her field. She’s a substitute teacher w/no benefits. The past does not indicate what our future will be.

I certainly hope that’s true.

Your stories are true about 1% of the time.

In second grade, US students rank among the top students in the world. After ten years of unionized education, as high school seniors they rank somewhere between 70th and 80th world wide. Something important isn’t working unless the union goal is to produce an unthinking electorate. Then it is working just fine.

Just 300 hours more of liberal social indoctrination of the children.

Next step: Pre-pre K

Final step: An NEA teacher will be in every hospital delivery room to carry the little one off to Newborn School. ( No sarcasm intended.)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

In states around the nation more than half of their budget goes toward funding the government run, GODLESS, socialist-funded, single-payer, compulsory-use INDOCTRINATION CAMPS!

The amount of money on all levels ( federal, state, and local) exceeds that used to fund the military. Some estimates are that is it approximately $17,000/year/child.

Yes, indeed!

If and when tyranny comes to the U.S., the fascist oligarchy will not use cattle cars to haul citizens to the re-education camps. No. No. Big yellow school buses will be used and the sheeple with compliantly board them just as they have been trained to do.

I consider government schooling to be so damaging to children and such a threat to our nation’s continuing freedom that I have made a personal decision.

Decision: I will not have a government school worker for a friend. They are too evil, too stupid, or too much of a Useful Idiot to be a friend. They are out of my life!

Government schools exist because workers **willingly** seek employment to run them. No one is holding a gun to their heads. Abortion centers exist for the same reason, too.

Won’t this cut into the pay of those who babysit the children outside school hours? Their union should have fought it!

Well, yes, that is exactly the goal.

The Ayers-led dumbing down is working just fine, thank you.

I suspect that those babysitters are not it the union, so they need to be squashed like a bug.

Dear Leader will be very happy when all of the kids are in their indoctrination centers for all of the day.

So glad I am not raising children now, but I am so fearful of what my preschool grandsons will be facing shortly.

Don’t I know that! But they are still true. Some don’t need education to make it. Some go to the school of hard knocks and succeed. Some go to Columbia and can’t find suitable work to fit their education. Some see a mountain as a mole hill and others see a mole hill as a mountain. And some can only manage on a safe straight road designed for them by others.
