Sick and tired of a burglar stealing packages from homes in her neighborhood, a San Francisco woman took matters into her own hands on Tuesday, according to the Daily Mail.
Luring the thief with a dummy package, Sonya Yu sprayed him with bear repellent and threatened him with a wooden sword, chasing him away. Minutes later, the alleged burglar, Andy Anduha, 51, was apprehended by law enforcement.

Yu, a photographer, recounted the entire incident on her Twitter account as events unfolded.
Yu informed her followers that several items had been stolen by Anduha. "He steals packages from door stoops - stole $1K+ worth from us earlier in the fall. He's been targeting our neighborhood."
"My bear spray, bokken, & I are still not intimidated,'" she tweeted Tuesday at 2:10 p.m. A bokken is a wooden sword used for samurai training.
Shortly after 4:45 p.m. the same day she tweeted, "I GOT HIM WITH THE BEAR SPRAY BUT HE ESCAPED." Then, less than 15 minutes later, "I AM PUTTING HIM UNDER CITIZENS ARREST RIGHT NOW WITH 4 COPS."

Little correction of my last comment here. Some (not all) pepper sprays for defense against people may be as weak as bear spray, but the stronger ones aren’t. [EPA says that more than 2 percent O.C. is inhumane, or something like that.] Bears are more sensitive to the stuff than humans.
For bear defense (if needed) while doing chores, though, I’d rather rely on a Ruger Blackhawk hot-rodded with special, hardened, heavy and somewhat fast, flat-nosed .45 Colt loads (or .44 magnum for those who like the extra bit of recoil while lacking single action training). ...but no bear problems around here. In their season, they frequently walk right on by this place for water and mind their own business.
I suspect that’s it’s a felony to use bear spray on a person, except in a life-threatening situation, which this doesn’t appear to be close to. So she did take some chance here.
Having said that, she is definitely NOT GUILTY, for multiple reasons.
It was my very poor attempt at a haiku.
If I have something under my sink, and I grab and use it to ward someone off, they’ll regret it if they decide I was in error to use whatever I had on hand. I will use that soapbox.
Eventually she will have to defend against assault and battery charges and possibly attempted maiming. Just give 'em a little time.
A jury may save her but not from the costs. Finally she will have to face the perp's civil suit.

SF is also world class at creating their own moronic laws.
Some of what I read about SF is maddening. Not just the laws. One time a few years back our service men were returning to the US and the plane made a fuel stop but not at Travis AFB. I think it was the main airport there. Anyway the mayor of SF forbade the troops from disembarking for a leg stretch while the plane refueled. Didn’t want our service people in their city environs.

The most potent forms of nerve gas(es) (eg, VX, GA, GB, GC) are based on the chemical family known as “organophosphates,” of which common farm pesticides like malathion and dimethoate are also members.
Since the mid-90’s, the EPA has so restricted OP’s that most unrestricted user pesticides have gone to permethrin-based chemicals, which is a different chemistry. There’s no nerve gas of which I’m aware that is based on permethrin chemistry.
The unrestricted pesticides you can buy over-the-counter without an applicator’s permit are so dilute, you’d have to dunk a perp in a 55 gallon drum of the concentrate to make them even a little sick.
Now, there are some restricted pesticides that can kill your ass dead, but you’re not going to find any of them at Home Depot...

Bear spray is dangerous and harsh and can blind humans. Good for her.

Wasp spray has better range and might well render the target blind,,,,,,make a begger out of a burgler maybe.
Wasp spray is also an effective bear spray.

I am very much in favor of using improvised weapons under the proper circumstances.
