(CNSNews.com) - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said on Friday that Congress should hand over to President Barack Obama personal, unilateral authority to increase the limit on the U.S. government's debt.
At a Friday press conference, a reporter asked Pelosi if she agreed with a proposal made by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner that Congress give Obama the power to unilaterally increase the debt limit.
"Yes," she said.
When he met with members of Congress on Thursday to discuss a deal to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff that is set to occur at the end of this year, Secretary Geithner suggested that Congress give Obama the personal power as president to lift the legal limit on the federal government's debt.

Heck, why not give him personal authority to suspend the Constitution too, while we’re at it.
Pretty soon they won’t be asking. They will just assume the power.

I seem to recall a story about a far away place (I think they called it Germany or something like that) a loooooong time ago, when some “representatives of the people” gave a funny looking, charismatic narcissist the keys to the treasury (and everything else). I don’t remember the story ending very well....

Saw a program on one of the history/Smithsonian channels yesterday. They were trying to identify a three thousand five hundred year old female Pharaoh from among four mummies. As they showed the mummies, I couldn’t help but think of Nancy, because some of them looked in better shape, and seemed much more composed.
The one thing Nancy has going for her, is that she has to be very popular with our enemies, who must roll on the floor constantly realizing she is a power figure in the midst of the ruling elite in their biggest enemy’s halls of governance.
Isn’t that something every child should aspire to? Evidently, for the Left in the U. S., it is.

The entire debate revolves around the fact that future Congresses are not bound by any spending mandates done by prior congresses.Only taxes transcend new congresses.
No agreement to bind a future Congress to cutting is enforceable. But any tax increase continues until a future congress passes a bill through both houses, and the President signs. Similarly, debt incurred today will need to be paid in the future.
A Constitutional Amendment IS binding (more binding than one Congress “promising” to cut future spending,as if that’ll ever happen) They should try again to pass the “Cut Cap Balance Act” .
