President Obama met with the newly elected President of Mexico, Enrique Pena Nieto yesterday. While the press focused on the Administration’s talking points for discussions on a wide range of issues from energy to climate change, the real concern is that the Mexican economy is far out performing the U.S. and the new immigration concern is increasingly from Americans illegally moving to Mexico.
Nowhere is this trend more challenging than in California, which was just awarded the booby-prize by 24/7 Wall Street survey, as the “Worst Run State” in the United States. The State has unemployment: 10.1% (2nd highest), Budget deficit: 20.7% (17th largest), Debt per capita: $4,008 (18th highest), Median household income: $57,287 (10th highest), percentage in poverty: 16.6% (18th highest) and the worst credit ratings.
State politician’s answer to get finances back on track, was to convince voters to raise sales taxes and increase the income tax rates for people making over $250,000 a year to the highest in the nation. This wasn’t difficult, since 40% of Californians don’t pay any income tax and a quarter are on Medicaid. Residents making $1 million per year saw their state tax burden rise to $96,189 from $87,459 last year. For every dollar earned over $1 million, the California income tax rate jumps to 13.3%.

I’m fairly sure most of the ‘Californians’ illegally immigrating to Mexico have deep roots there to begin with.
I think it’s lovely-—we now have enough Californians in Texas.......let them go elsewhere.

GUADALAJARA, Mexico — It may be the dream of some college seniors to spend a year post-graduation working “under the table” serving pints in some glorious European city. But thousands of American adults living on the lam in Mexico? As in the United States, estimates of the number of illegal immigrants in Mexico at any given time are hard to come by. But the majority are ex-pats from the U.S., according to Mexico’s federal bureau of immigration. Many undocumented Americans arrive not knowing how long they’ll stay, don’t get the appropriate papers and end up in the country illegally, said Mexican immigration agent Beatrice Amparo Perez Alatorre.
IMHO, Mexico is not a desired place for me with the crime and drug lords there. My preference would be Australia, NZ or one of the Scandinavian countries.
But something tells me these Americans are not living in the crime ridden areas. Just like not every American city is as violent as Detroit or Chicago, there must be areas of Mexico that are as tranquil as The Villages.
Just guessin'.
Mexico could be a great country, if it was run properly.
It has an abundance of natural resources and tourist opportunities galore.
I always say we should have an immigration treaty with Mexico that allows American citizens there the exact same rights as Mexican citizens here. Ability to own propety outright, own and operate businesses, etc. American entrepenuers would move there in droves and optimize the opportunities and employ millions of people.
Rich Americans would buy more property there and Mexicans could have the same jobs they have here building, cleaning homes, doing landscaping. With all the new jobs Americans would create, there would be less need for lower income Mexicans to move north.
The trick would be that the terms of the treaty would have to be exactly equal for the citizens of both countries. If Mexicans could live in American and collect welfare, get housing credits, get free healthcare etc, then Americans could do exactly the same in Mexico ... and so on. Millions of America’s would move there just because the climate would be better and they could get the same ‘benefits’.

When is the treatment of American citizens in Mexico and their rights vs US treatment of Mexicans going to be an issue when we discuss amnesty ?
Ever hear of reciprocal aggrements ? These are arranged to protect the rights of American citizens working or living in other countries.
Why is it when it comes to citizens of other countries we are required to offer them the same privledges as we do to US citizens? But when it comes to US citizens who get in trouble or attempt to do business in other countries they do not get the same treatment their citizens get.
Americans can’t own coast land in Mexico. And get no title to it elsewhere. If they run out of cash they’ll get unceremoniously sent back or put in jail untill some relative comes up with the “fresh”. That’s just for starters as for granting them voting privledges yea let’s give Mexican citizens that right when American citizens vote in their elections .
There are lots of Americans living in San Carlos. Many celebs.
