Entrepreneurial activity is up 60 percent in the United States over last year, reaching its highest level since 2005, according to a new report.

About 12.3 percent of U.S. adults —around 29 million —are involved in entrepreneurial activity, the 2011 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor issued by Babson College and Baruch College reported.

This rise marks the the first uptick in Americans starting or running new businesses since 2008.

It happens in recessions when the unemployment benefits run out. Some people look for work as independent contractors.

I saw a musical “entrerpreneur” propped up against a lightpost last night. He was playing a clarinet badly and had a shoebox with some change in it. And I had a teenage entrepreneur come by the other day and offer to shovel my driveway.

Yep, our economy’s afire with the entrepreneurial spirit.

In other words, i can’t find a job, no one is hiring, those that are hiring are not impressed with my stupid degree or experience... So i have to be self employed, scrapping by on odd jobs - now known as”contract work” and I’m an entrepreneur. Of course part of being in business is sometimes going out of business - lots of business ventures fail. I wouldn’t put it past the criminals in the obama administration to claim credit for “entrepreneurial activity” even for business closings. I’m sure that kind of activity is up, judging by what i see with my own eyes around town.

Not really, and uptick in "entrepreneurial activities" is a sign of recession. A lot of folks who get laid off try starting their own businesses.....some succeed, most fail.

I got "downsized" during the recession in the early 1990's, and with a couple of colleagues, started a business related to our technical specialties. We're still here, still in business, and still growing (though more slowly in the current financial slowdown).

Well that may be, but our side needs to break the link with foreign companies and bring back American workers.

We lost the last election because of two reasons:

1) Mitt Romney is boring, and a Mormon

but...
2) We also lost because we have sent so many jobs to foreign countries, that Americans with jobs and support are now falling significantly.

Number two is a significant problem for Republicans, and one with must be reversed immediately. We are now at 50% ... and falling.

Unless the GOP champions American workers, our party will simply cease to exist as a competitive force for America.

Fight for America.

Or the GOP will simply vanish.

“About 12.3 percent of U.S. adults —around 29 million —are involved in entrepreneurial activity.”

Note use of the phrase “entrepeneurial activity” and emphasis on the quantity of people engaged in it. No sort of concrete results, but whoo-hoo, effort is being expended. Unfortunately, “activity” does not necessarily produce anything useful.

One of my pet theories is that the modern Left operates under a bastardized form of Marxism, without understanding or even knowing it. What better example than this ironic application of Marx’s Labor Theory of Value to entrepreneurism.

Exactly, calling yourself self-employed is better than saying out of work for several years. Figures lie and liars figure.

Don’t forget burrito and tamale sellers and I bet the Christmas season will bring us candy and cookie sellers. All tax and regulation free.

Agree. When nobody will hire you and you have a skill or ability, you’re forced into working for yourself. The only way many of these people will survive is the tax “breaks” for owning a small business. In these cases I view the “breaks” as a government stipend for being self-sufficient, not a bad thing in my book. However, I do expect Obamacare to have a negative effect on the ability of these businesses to survive.

Well, this TOTALLY explains WHY the unemployment rate is dropping so significantly. /s

This isn't propaganda.. this is a FULL LOAD of BULL$SHIT.

If entrepreneurship is up it's because those that can't find a job have begin trying desperately to do, or start something, in order to make a buck.
