Under the ordinance, stores will be prohibited from offering customers plastic bags for carrying out purchases and will be required to charge a dime per paper bag. Beginning on Jan. 1, 2015, the price of paper bags will go up to 25 cent each.

"Most of the comments I've gotten to date are not only supportive, but they are really enthused about it," said Moura, adding that the only complaint he's heard involves the paper bag charge.

County officials are hoping as many of the bans will go into effect as possible by April 22, which is Earth Day.

Another fake concern in life. You can hate paper bags because they are a waste of a precious resource. You can hate cloth bags because they retain lots of bacteria. Or you can hate plastic because a few end up harming birds or in the rivers.

I think it’s time we put California on a 24-hour suicide watch.

They ban plastic bags because the are addicted to controlling people; especially for reasons that have no logical justification and are actually a population training tool.

Power is the ability to control without a reason.

And I've always wondered if these yo-yos have never heard of washing machines.

"And I've always wondered if these yo-yos have never heard of washing machines."

You mean the high efficiency washing machines that not only don't clean your clothes, but have special detergent you must run through to "clean" them?

Something's wrong if your washing machine literally stinks.

Imagine what the clothes smell like.

I live in San Mateo and this is ridiculous. Also if you think you can just bring your own plastic bag into the store the answer is NO. I hate California.

How much paper (wood resources) does the government waste in the production of regulations and for compliance to those regulations by business and the public?

Answer: One hell of a lot more that paper bags.....that’s for sure.
