House GOP plans public push against tax hikes on businesses [Good!]
THE HILL ^ | November 27, 2012 | Russell Berman

President Obama won’t be the only one hitting the campaign trail to push his deficit plan to avert the fiscal cliff.

House Republicans are planning their own campaign-style events to argue against Obama’s insistence on higher tax rates for the wealthy, Speaker John Boehner’s office said Tuesday.

As they have repeatedly, Republicans are targeting their message to small businesses, arguing that an increase in the marginal income rate over $250,000 a year will hit small-business owners who file as individuals.

I hope they are relentless. After seeing the LOCAL tv stations in Miami are going to give Obama FREE commercial time today, masquerading as a "statement on the economy", I am tempted to start sending FACT SHEETS to the "journalists" at my local radio and tv places.

The government SPENDS TOO MUCH, it does NOT tax too little.

The truth is the truth, whether it is post-election or not.

Does this mean the GOP will repent for its hostility toward Americans in the TeaParty? The GOP would not be in the Speaker's chair had it not been for the TeaParty Americans. It is really sad that the GOP-e Romney campaign refused to embrace TeaParty ideas.

How hard is it to remember NO taxation/mandates without representation? Redistribution of other peoples wealth is from the devil's own handbook!

Both sides of this conversation are idiotic. The difference if I remember correctly is 3% which on $250k is $7500 per year is not enough to hire employees. It is only enough to pay for a exotic vacation or a new car. The only solution is to reduce the size and scope of the federal government and the republicans won’t even discuss it....

They could show good faith and get applause if they said something along the lines of, “Let’s show good faith by cutting our own salaries and benefits...or put forth a small proposal that they are subject in full to all the same programs and laws that the average American must live under”...something like that could start the “cut spending” argument. Or, is that why they don’t talk so much about cutting spending?

bam and the democrat party is like an alcoholic been on a 4 year binge, run up a $5 TRILLION tab on top of the previous $10 TRILLION bill, now begging the well-dressed for small change and promising to stop drinking when he cures his hangover

I agree. Republicans keep selling us a bill of goods. Never make the spending cuts needed and only talk taxes. Get rid of most of the deductions and special rates for certain types of income and you might be able to lower taxes. This is on both individuals and business. Go budget item by budget item and see if it should even exist. Each has their own up or down vote. No bundling with things needed. Make serious effort to deal with both entitlement spending and defense spending. Get rid of the many duplicate progams and agencies. Make a serious effort at reforming. No sacred cows allowed. None of this will happen though.

Arguing against tax hikes is commendable, but as usual the RINO factor is present as they focus on a targeted group, small business instead of to all Americans with a strong argument against BIG GOVERNMENT.

IOW The old RINO make it appear we are doing something trick, so we can't be fingered for not doing our jobs as we give away the store to Obama.

Do you really think obamas increased tax bite on middle class people (yes, middle class) making $250K will simply mean a family is unable to go on an “exotic” vacation or buy a new car?

Even more basic is the conversation of what works and what is failing. Our bridges and highways are a disaster as is our education system. The federal government is outstanding and bringing HUGE power to bear on HUGE problems like WWII, Creation of the interstate highway system, racial equality, but using the federal government to fill pot holes is like using a sledge hammer to kill a gnat. The states are better equipped to handle issues that require more focus and we can eliminate all that useless overhead and legislative manipulation.

There are literally thousands of little 5 and 6 figure pork projects that just keep getting money. If we can’t cut the funding for hiking trails, there’s zero chance entitlements will be cut.

Even liberals admit that PBS is just a drop in the bucket yet aren’t willing to let it go.

Well, the debate is over small businesses, and yes, that will be the impact. The owners will not hire anyone with an extra $7500. If you take 20% of that $7500 to account for a profit and 30% to account for overhead (office space, vacation, etc) that will leave you at most $4000 per year. Who is going to hire someone with $4k per year? This is nothing more than more class warfare to give the illusion that congress is fighting the good fight.

Well, if you want to get technical, Vacation is part of fringe and benefits but I grouped everything under overhead. The only way to stay in business is to account for the cost of an employee as part of the “revenue” the employee may directly or indirectly generate for the organization. An employer has to account for the cost of an employees salary while they are on paid vacation in addition to the cost of their medical insurance (if company supplied), sick leave (if earned), personal time (if tracked) and the employers half of the Social security tax (7.5%).

I wish they didn’t announce they were planning on doing something, but rather start doing it and announce at the same time. I hate announcements of planning to do something, waste of time.

The ‘consultants’ were busy stealing their money. Rush had good points about this last week (I think). Erick Erickson at Redstate also mentions this, as does Mark Levin. What I would like to see is someone like Sarah Palin or Col. West take over as chair of the RNC and start cleaning house. I will try all I can at my end, but the only way to destroy the GOP-e is to kick them out. Most are natural rats anyway and they are a handful.

Who CARES about such a subjective comment?

And who decides who is rich enough to be forced to give up 40% of their income to the feds as a “fair share”???

At what income point are you NOT jealous of someone who makes more money than you and willing to throw them under obama’s class warfare bus and take enough of their money to make things “fair”?

What constitutes “middle class living” for a family of 5 vs a singleton?

For a family that has an autistic child or a child with leukemia or cystic fibrosis or a wife with breast cancer or aging indigent parents??

what is middle class life for a family that makes a choice to send one adult to medical school or that is paying the costs of someone who did attend medical school and who will someday keep your heart beating after an attack? Is the surgeon who did not even start to earn a good salary until age 32 overpaid and undertaxed? Do you want to tell him that before or after he removes your child’s brain tumor??

what is middle class life for a family that lives in New York vs Kansas?

Unlike obama and harry reid, this homie does not want to play this game

The difference is that the bias now turns toward taxing higher incomes.

It becomes clear in millions of minds that it's "moral" to tax the rich. Once you get that in people's heads there's a long list of ways to do that.

Also, it's not the $7500 which of course is not enough to hire someone.

It's the bias.

If these business up to this point were on the edge of expanding hiring, a law passed against them at this point shows them the Fed Gov't is not on their side so many businesses entrench further.

Plus, of course you're talking way more than $7500 as you go higher. It's the bigger business who will entrench which will increase unemployment.
