If you’re tempted to skip your flu shot, consider this: Getting vaccinated cuts risk for a heart attack or stroke by up to 50 percent, according to two studies presented at the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress.

Scientists from TIMU Study Group and Network for Innovation in Clinical Research analyzed published clinical trials involving a total of 3,227 patients, half of whom had been diagnosed with heart disease. Participants, whose average age was 60, were randomly assigned to either receive flu vaccine or a placebo shot, then their health was tracked for 12 months.

Those who got the flu shot were 50 percent less likely to suffer major cardiac events (such as heart attacks or strokes) and 40 percent less likely to die of cardiac causes. Similar trends were found in patients with and without previous heart disease. The findings suggest “that flu vaccine is a heart vaccine,” lead study author Jacob Udell told Fox News.

My father got the flu shot religeously and chastized me for skipping it. He died of a massive stroke anyway inspite of this and including watching his weight, diet, and taking meds for the last 20 years. So much for this propaganda.

I can say, this does not correlate with my personal experience in a hospital environment. Maybe they should claim flu shots cure cancer or supercharge your sex life. Of course, my finding are not government funded and documented, just 25 years of observation. I have not had a flu shot since the military mandate... that would be 20 years. Might have had one mild case of the flu. A simple does of Walmart Mag-Zinc for an immune boost while people cough and spread their vaccination all around me. In the medical field I have a high exposure to every acute infection endemic to our region. Happy, healthy and full of energy.

Sounds like they gave flu shots to the healthy 50 percent, and then concluded the clinical trial was a success. Who funded this?

As far as I’m concerned this is just another reason to skip the shot.

Yep - let my wife talk me into the shot this year after missing the last 6 years - been sick on and off for 7 weeks with something that won't let go. She's also been sick since a week after getting hers and is going on 5 weeks of being sick. Time to swear off the shots for good.

Actually they do, heart attacks tend to be preceded by respiratory infection, flu shots help prevent those, thus reducing heart attacks.

Which still leaves the old situation of if you don’t get the flu you don’t need the shot. Because it won’t stop people who already don’t get the flu (and subsequent infections) from having non-infection related hear attacks.

A search of stories regarding Baxter and European innoculations would be enough to make anyone swear off flu shots forever. Unless they've been scrubbed. Frankly, I don't trust the government any more.
