Republican and Lesbian, and Fighting for Acceptance of Both Identities (Damn The New York Times)
New York Times ^ | November 25, 2012 | Sarah Wheaton

In 1996, Kathryn Lehman was a soon-to-be married lawyer working for Republicans in the House of Representatives. One of her major accomplishments: helping to write the law that bans federal recognition of same-sex marriages.

Today, Ms. Lehman, 53, no longer has a husband, and no longer identifies as straight. And she is a lobbyist for Freedom to Marry, which is devoted to overturning the very law she helped write, the Defense of Marriage Act.

But Ms. Lehman is still a fervent Republican.

“I’m trying to break the stereotype that all gays and lesbians, especially lesbians, are Democrats,” she said.

Although the Republican Party has long drawn gay men who believe in the party’s message of small government and a strong military, Republican lesbians are a rare political breed.

“Oh, we’re like unicorns,” said Erin Simpson, 51, who cites “personal liberty” as a fundamental value and teaches firearms safety in Tucson. Ms. Simpson, who came out in February, was “very disheartened” by Mitt Romney’s loss — one fueled, in part, by overwhelming gay support for President Obama. board member of the Log Cabin Republicans.

Yep.

This person has a mental handicap they wish to have declared “normal” and punish those who do not agree.

No Republican has any issues with the need to struggle for acceptance. The Republican viewpoint is very much accepted for its perspective as an American institution. While it may be a political anathema for a majority of Americans, the issue of "acceptance" simply doesn't apply.

Whereas where lesbians are concerned "acceptance" takes on an entirely different meaning.

Real Republicans don’t feel the need to tell everyone how they prefer sex, and don’t consider their sexual desires as their defining issue. Shut up and live your life, I don’t want to know what goes on in your bedroom.

Ditto. People can choose to life their lives any way they choose, and whether I agree with it or not - in the end we will all stand before the Bema Seat of Christ and give an account of ourselves, so, I’m not responsible for what others do, nor should I pay for their sins. Jesus already did that.

two different definitions. conservatives know the difference between toleance and acceptance. the left, they demand tolerance == acceptance, and accpetance == active promotion.

You think the Times sucks now?

You should read the articles they published instigating the war against the Sons of the Founders back in the 1860’s.

Literally has been agitating for the destruction of the moral fabric of our nation since it was founded.

Their day of reckoning will come.

"The hell with Republicans. I’m conservative."

Amen.
Same here, I have always identified as a conservative rather than a Republican.
And I have shifted into a Radical Conservative.

she keeps quiet about her sexuality, especially after being fired from a job after her boss found out.

She'd be safe in New York City, except for her political beliefs, which are not protected by law. The Democrat "supermajority" gives employers, and everyone else, the feeling they can do anything to bully and persecute Republicans and no one will care.

“I’m trying to break the stereotype that all gays and lesbians, especially lesbians, are Democrats,” she said.

A pile of dung by any other name still smells like dung. I guess it's the latest movement in taking over the Nation - infiltrating "Republicans" with Democraps who call themselves Republicans. Actually, not so new - I offer the GOPe/RNC as evidence that the infiltration has already succeeded.
