ALBANY, N.Y. — The count of paper ballots in two critical New York state Senate races is in the final stages this week, with control of the chamber hanging in the balance.

The seesawing leads continue in the 46th Senate District, where Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk (KAT'-chihk) trails by about 700 votes with more than 3,000 votes yet to be counted in her Ulster County stronghold. Republican George Amedore (AM'-uh-dohr) has the lead after being behind on election night.

The counting resumes Tuesday and the race could be decided by the end of the day.

Word on the street is that Cuomo really wants Republicans to maintain control of the NY Senate so that Democrats can’t run the table with their ridiculous socialist proposals and jeapardize Cuomo’s 2016 presidential aspirations. Even if Democrats technically win control, there may be enough Dems who pledge to caucus with Republicans to keep that control in Repub hands.

We really need all the help we can get over here!

Has any GOP candidate won a close race anywhere, since Bush v. Gore?

I am afraid that it is beginning to look like the Southern parts of the US are the last bastion of majority Conservative thought. I still think that if there were no stealing of elections in the United States... then the left would never have been able to elect obama twice.

Having said that... according to Newt Gingrich today... part of the reason that republicans have not been able to win national elections (and why Bush won with the smallest presidential reelection vote ever)... is that the left has so indoctrinated generations of Americans in public schools and the press has sold the republican brand as being an uncaring Neanderthal sub species who just want to starve blacks and count our money.

Since the election, Newt has spoken with many students on America's College Campuses. Many people that he talked with agreed with the republican party this year... but could not vote for them... because as many have told Newt to his face, “I can't vote for you even if I agree with you... you are a republican”. Newt says we have to change the way we are perceived and he actually gave several good ways to do so. He says it is time for the right to go on these pop culture shows like the view, colbert and jon stewart. Go there with style and grace and counter their arguments with facts and humor and let them see for themselves that the perception of us is a lie. Of course Newt says this must be done by those with the intestinal fortitude to take on the left and their press and federal machine that manufactures reality as it is needed.

I personally think that most of these viewers are lost souls but Newt is convinced that we must reach those that should be voting for us... because of what we share in common beliefs... but that today they hate us for what abccnnnbccbsmslsd have sold us as being. Maybe Newt is right? One thing is crystal clear... the republican leadership has been WRONG!

No worry for the Democrat. There is a box of ballots in a car trunk.

I agree - raised in Rochester NY and spent 24 years in the AF - settled just outside Biloxi, MS and there is more common sense in the average "hayseed redneck" than in the whole of the northeast (discounting the FRs and other conservatives who are "stranded" of course). Even teachers are unafraid to profess their Christian faith.

Cool beans. The summers here are almost as brutal on me as a NY winter, but it is beautiful (too bad the casinos couldn't have been put on the I-10 corridor to preserve the rustic beauty of the beaches). It's also a conservative paradise compared to much of the country - I even saw Blacks carrying Romney/Ryan yard signs at a recent mullet festival in Gautier.

I have lived all over the world... I came back here. That should tell you something. I wish gaming had never been allowed to come into being. In many ways, it has destroyed a way of life.
