New York Churches Facing Eviction Despite Hurricane Sandy Help

The city of New York continues to seek eviction of churches meeting for worship services in public school buildings on weekends, even after many of the congregations have ministered to the communities in which they meet in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, whose administration has also come under fire for banning food donations to homeless shelters, has not intervened to stop his Board of Education’s ongoing efforts to oust the churches.

“Churches that have been helping communities for years should be allowed to continue to offer the hope that empty buildings can’t,” said Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Jordan Lorence, who will argue the churches’ case on Monday. “The Constitution requires New York City to allow churches and other religious groups to meet for worship services in vacant school buildings on weekends on the same terms as other groups. It is tragic that the city continues its efforts to evict the very groups that are selflessly helping the city’s communities, including the public schools themselves.”

I'm having a hard time believing all these really bad reports coming out of NY and Blooming Idiot's administration.

Really?

A church is to be evicted?

Why?

What possible rationale can "the city" have for evicting a church that meets in a public building because IT'S building is unsafe for services?

I got a "GFY" from a NY FReeper because I challenged their resolve to acvtually DO something about what's happening to them ... like I was their enemy for voicing an opinion and a challenge that the entire country is at least murmuring.

NY .. and especially "The City", has a rep of being bad and tough ... but I don't see it.

The problem isn’t NY. Half the country is deluded.

Bloomberg and his constituency HATE Christians and believing Jews. The Constitution is an inconvenient relic of a time when America was a “theocracy” (the founding period).

The Board of Education despises any mention of morals, kindness, charity, or spirituality in their buildings. The Board of Education’s buildings are dedicated to the dumbing-down and sexualization of the children trapped in their classrooms.

It is not just the NYC Board of Education that appears to be antagonistic to practicing Christians and Jews. It took 10+ years before the NY-NJ Port Authority (PA) would honor its pledge to allow/help reconstruct the only church completely destroyed in the 09/11 WTC Attack. St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church stood across the street from the WTC South Tower and was flattened by its collapse. For years, Mayor Bloomberg, NYC and the PA said all of the right words but negotiations kept failing about location, access rights and funding, especially when the "Ground Zero" mosque also hit the news. Finally, in October 2011, agreement was reached after much arm-twisting and publicity that had NY Governor Cuomo leading the decision forward.

You cannot institute a Socialist/Communist agenda when there are still a majority of religious people in the country. They must eliminate the believers to continue with their ‘progressive’ agenda. When a person has faith in a higher power, they do not place faith in the all powerful Government. Take away their ability to worship with like minded others and you have an easier time of convincing them that their faith is misplaced.

You seem to think that New Yorkers are sitting in flooded houses waiting for the government to fish them out. What NYC freepers are saying is that people are helping themselves out of trouble but Bloomberg and his idiot minions keep trying to stop them. One fireman who was cooking for people who had lost their houses, threw a bureaucrat out of his tent when the jerk questioned whether the food was healthy or not!

“this constant New York bashing gets real old. “

The question though is it older than the bashing of all the red cities in the U.S. by the left or is this another example of where we are expected to be “nice” unilaterally?

The so-called “backward” red parts of the nation poured our hearts out to NYC after 9-11 and the only thing they have done was give us the finger. I personally do not care what ever happens to the place from now on.

The priest has been known to eat Twinkies and 32 oz cokes, and that’s a bad example to set.

Churches, watch your tongues, don’t involve yourselves in the political process and absolutely quit soliciting donations. Pray for the Lord to provide all and He will. If you are blabbing and running around, you cannot follow His leading.
