Prince Charles: 'I'm running out of time'
Telegraph ^ | 24 Nov 2012 | Roya Nikkhah

In a series of remarkably candid comments, Prince Charles hinted that he feared his legacy as king would be cut short.

During a visit to Dumfries House, the stately home in East Ayrshire which the Prince helped save for the nation, he joked about his reputation for pursuing projects with notorious vigour but made a poignant reference to his mortality.

He said: “Impatient? Me? What a thing to suggest! Yes of course I am.” He added: “I’ll run out of time soon. I shall have snuffed it if I’m not careful.”

The comments, which were recorded for a film on the Clarence House website about the Prince’s involvement with Dumfries House, will fuel ongoing speculation that Prince Charles, 64, is more eager than ever to take the throne after 60 years of waiting.

In 2008, he became the longest-waiting heir to the throne in British history, overtaking his great-great grandfather, Edward VII.

While royal aides insist that he is fulfilled by his current role as heir apparent, supporting the Queen and being actively involved with the Prince’s Trust and his numerous other charities, many royal commentators have suggested that he feels frustrated his reign has not yet begun.

May Queen Elizabeth live and reign until she’s 101 years old or longer, which is the age that her mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, lived to.

There is a reason why The Queen hasn't given you The Crown yet Charles.

Think about that for a second.

He’s 10 months shy of being the oldest to accede to the throne.

He’s a long way though from being the oldest claimant - that would be the Electress Sophia, who at 84 died just a month shy of being Queen.

I have a friend who wrote the Queen just today.

He is requesting photos of a bowl that he made her and which used to be on the Britannia. They physically shipped it to him once, in the late 1960s, for him to use it in some art shows, but today he is just looking for her to send him photos of it.

Charles hasn’t yet become the longest serving Prince of Wales. He needs another 4.5 years.

59 years 1 month (Edward VII)
57 years 5 months (George IV)
54 years 5 months (Charles).

Charles is also about 4 years away from serving as the longest serving heir presumptive. Only James Francis Edward Stuart served longer, 64 years.

You said Charles is 54. He was born in 1948, which makes him 64.

She’s significant to the current throne because she ties the present dynasty to the Stuarts and later Plantagenets. (everyone after Edward III). Doing Elizabeth’s genealogy, she is *very* significant. I’m not sure if that is the same for Charles or William.

Feeling frustrated that his mother is still alive?

No. It is quite common through history for old Monarchs to step aside and allow their heir to take over. Unfortunately for Charles the old bat thinks he's a loser and wants one of the grand-kids to take the throne.

What in the world? Is he wishing his mother dead? Hopefully just wanting her to step aside but pretty selfish in any case.

Not so simple with the system of government they have...all of the powers of government are delegated from the Monarch’s power and done in the Monarch’s name...their troops are sworn to protect the Queen as our troops are sworn to protect the Constitution. The Monarch gives the government legitimacy to exist as the Constitution here gives our government legitimacy to exist (although of course...it seems the government does not obey its words all too often).

His Royal Chuckness had better tread lightly if and when he does become king. He seems the type to try to rule and not just reign, and I don’t see any prime minister putting up with it. The British politicians may find a way to see him and the Firm off for good if Prince Nitwit becomes even more annoying and meddlesome as king.

“Chuck can peer through a knot-hole and suffer no loss of depth perception. “

My now departed dear mother used to say that the Charles could look through a keyhole with both eyes at the same time! And so could many of the House of Windsor.

I looked that up and was surprised to find the entire lineage actually goes back to the first traces of the formation of the Monarchy, to William I (The Conqueror) and even to some of the warring pretenders to the throne beforehand...pretty fascinating and surprising - I thought that throughout history the throne had probably been taken by different powers at war coming in and taking over...but all of the squabbles over the throne were actually inter-family when they took place...not always immediate family, but still family. Just a brief interruption by Cromwell to their continuous reign.

Charles is shame to his country and that is why his own mother does not want to give up the throne.
