TriHealth fires 150 employees for not getting flu shots: Co. offered shots for free (Cincinnati)

CINCINNATI — One of Cincinnati’s largest employers fired approximately 150 employees Wednesday for failing to get a required flu shot.

TriHealth offered all of its 10,800 employees free flu shots. Employees had a month to get the flu shot. The deadline was Nov. 16. Employees who did not get the shot were terminated Wednesday, a company spokesperson said...

BS, if you take the shot, YOU get your immunity, right? And if one doesn’t take the shot, they only risk themselves and others who made the same decision. So take the shot if you wish. You are free to mock me if i get a flu. My decision does not harm those who decide to get the shot. Why are you so determined to make us get the same shot you did? How does that benefit YOU?

Actually, even people who receive the shot might not be protected. Some people do not become immune from shots. So, if you skip your shots and get sick, you could very well endanger someone who has conscientiously taken all of their vaccines. Your choice to remain susceptible to vaccine preventable diseases does not just affect you.

I had to have the TB test before being hired. But, I also realize that employers do change conditions of employment as time goes on. I don’t like the idea of being forced to have a shot in order to have a job, but it is still a choice, as difficult as it may be. I was petrified with that TB test, but I did it. It was my decision.
If someone is working in an office and the company moves, there is a choice sometimes to drive an extra 10 miles or lose the job. The company may change computer systems and the employees must learn or leave. A company may expand its hours to Sundays; work the weekend or find a new job. Granted, none of these have potential health issues, but possibly religious ones. The bottom line, is that an employer can make uncomfortable new requirements as a condition of employment, even after a number of years.

Thanks for the links. After the fact I learned about the Hep B/MS research (they have since said other trials do not bear out those earlier studies, but obviously I’m leaning to the results of the study you referenced.)

We homeschooled, so avoided the Hep B for our son, but when he was headed for college they require the Hep B...we had our doctor write a note to excuse him from the Hep B vaccine, which seemed the safest route for us considering there is a possible genetic link to the disease.

'A Whole Industry Is Waiting For A Pandemic'

That article is an interview with an epidemiologist who has studied the available research on flu and flu vaccines. I've read other stuff by him. He's definitely not anti-vaccine and takes great pains to state that he has five kids, all who have had the major vaccines. He's just anti-scam.

Actually I know of TWO people who have used FOIA requests to get the data behind the ‘36000 dead’ statistic used to justify universal flu vaccination. Which, btw, was the number in ‘04. So, now that flu vaccination rates have doubled or nearly so since then, what’s the new death number? Have they checked? Why or why not? Flu vaccines are currently a 2 to 3 BILLION dollar item right now. Wouldn’t it be great to see, independently, if they actually worked?

You and I have a choice wrt flu shot (or any other) this year. In ‘14 that changes.

Okay, forget about anything with a tinge of collectivism to it. Let’s stipulate that no one should be obligated to get a flu shot.

Not getting a flu shot seems like a good idea, when most other people are getting a shot. You don’t run any risk from getting a shot; and your risk of getting the flu is small. Now, what happens if the proportion of the population getting a shot falls below some critical threshold (2/3 or whatever it may be)? That changes the risk-reward trade-off for immunization. A lot more people would be catching (and spreading) the flu. If you don’t get a shot, your chance of getting the flu are much greater, if fewer other people also don’t get a shot.

So, if you don’t want to take a flu shot, and you don’t want to catch the flu — the smart thing would be to try to convince everyone else to get a shot.

Tainted vaccines == tough noogies.

Real tough for those 119 who developed fungal meningitis from 'tainted shots'...even tougher for the fatalities. Good thing those weren't 'mandatory'. Sure would hate to see that happen with a flu vaccine...thank G-d for 'QC'.

“Flu kills between 3,000 and 49,000 Americans every year, “

Cite.

With accompanying hard epidemiological data.

I thought I put the link in, but here it is: CDC Seasonal Flu page. You can find more detailed reports in the MMWR publication (Google "MMWR flu"), or you can go to www.pubmed.org and search for the original medical research publications yourself. If you have questions about how the CDC derives their numbers, you can probably ask them yourself (they do have contact info at their website).

I’ve had FIVE rubella vaccines. I still have ‘0’ rubella titer. I’m not jack boot enough, though, to demand someone ELSE submit to a medical procedure they don’t agree with just to protect me. This is just the gun control argument in a different area. Moreover, neither I nor you can guarantee that forcing someone to receive the rubella vaccine (grown in a dead fetus that would be *older* than I am btw) would even generate a positive titer for them. Regardless of how many times it was repeated.

what I would support, wholeheartedly, is being deliberately innoculated WITH rubella and spending a couple weeks in a ‘rubella hostel’ somewhere. Think of it as an away camp for 10yr old girls. Never have to worry about your status again. Or who might have it.

my father died from the swine flu shot, which gave him Guillain barre: None of my family will EVER take the flu shot, and neither will a nurse I talked to about this.

Interesting suggestion. I know TWO people who have taken it upon themselves to research the 36000 number. BOTH have been denied and iirc the last denial (they’ve gone down this round and round with the CDC for nearly TEN YEARS now btw) was due to reasons of ‘national security’.

So yeah. They TELL you those numbers. But give you nothing behind them but their word. Trust us. I’m more of a ‘show your work’ kind of gal. In fact, I failed kids who tried that when I taught college.

Coming from the organization that included gang crimes and deaths in 21yr olds as ‘child gun deaths’ in an anti gun screed, color me suspicious of their data and research.

Click the link in 165. It would appear that the whole ‘flu vax prevents flu’ is up to debate.

Probably the reason you aren’t finding flu deaths is because what people actually are dying from is pneumonia which is what the flu virus leaves you with. You get over the flu and bacterial pneumonia kills you.

“Flu kills between 3,000 and 49,000 Americans every year,”

Why yes, i can build that house according to your blueprints. It’ll cost somewhere between 100,000 and 1.6 million when im done.

You do realize that there are many different flu viruses, and a different number of people die from them every year? What the numbers mean is that there is one year where only 3,000 people died, another year where 49,000 people died, and the deaths during the other years were between those two numbers. I forgot to mention that this covers a 30 year period, between 1976 and 2006.

The 1918 flu killed about 50 million people worldwide over a period of three years. We're lucky that no such virulent flu has stricken during our lifetimes... there is no guarantee that we won't see another flu like the 1918 flu. Flu is a killer.

Which is misleading. Compounded with the fact that *apparently* (and we don’t know this for sure because, suspiciously, the CDC isn’t telling) ALL pneumonia deaths are attributed to flu. I personally have had pneumonia FIVE times. All five of those were from simple head colds. No fever higher than 99.9 with any of them. Duration of 3-5 days. Miserable but not at deaths door. Got well for a day or so then woke up with fever of 104 and gurgling when I breathed. Hardly the flu. But I betcha I was included in a pneumonia == flu stat somewhere.

Just because *some* vaccines work and are a great idea, doesn’t mean *others* aren’t essentially useless and expensive scams.

The handwashing and revolving door between the CDC, FDA and big pharma is even worse if you can believe it than that between the regulatory agencies and wall street. We know how dirty wall street is (coff corzine coff madoff). I’m mystified at the resistance to accepting that FDA/CDC might be just as dirty and corrupt.

People, especially the elderly, can get pneumonia from a variety of causes. Even bedrest. Not just the flu. There are over 200 viruses that can cause ‘flu like’ symptoms. Unless they test, specifically, for that while the infection is present it’s anybody’s guess what caused that particular case of pneumonia.

Personally I think the whole vaccine program is a huge brain control experiment. /s

That's because you have not seen first hand the ravages of disease in a non-vaccinated population. Up until a few years ago, more people worldwide died of infectious disease than from any other cause.
