In post-election analyses, the 11-point drop in the president's support among 18- to 29-year-olds indicates that particular voting bloc is falling away from Barack Obama on major issues.

One polling trend that isn't going in Barack Obama's favor after the presidential election is the drop in his support among young voters. Even though it might not be as unbelievable as winning 100 percent of the vote in 59 Philadelphia precincts ─ and nine Cleveland precincts ─ an 11-point swing in support away from Obama is lifting some eyebrows on both sides of the political spectrum ... particularly because that swing comes from the president's strongest segment of voters.
This 11-percent drop in support among the 18- to 29-year-old age group is the largest drop in that demographic in U.S. history for an incumbent president who won re-election.
It begs the question: To what can this largest demographic swing be attributed?

Perhaps. But I think we need to pick a conservative in 2016. People say they are not electable but neither is moderates either obviously. Santorum should be our candidate in 2016. I don’t see how anyone else would be worse or possibly better. The GOP is going to try to pick a hispanic to try and win that way.....Again it is all about conservative values not sucking up especially to Republicans who are smarter than that.
Nice anecdotal thoughts, but the stats tell us otherwise: the young vote more liberally than anyone else.
If Obama had an unprecedented drop in support from his first to second term, that most likely is simply due to his having had a super-unprecedented level of support among the young to start with.
It doesn't matter anymore how good your candidate is. Show me all the precincts where Romney won 100% of the vote.

In the general election Romney was a very strong candidate.
You can’t just appeal to one group of people.
Romney has a good flair for not getting pissed off or offensive.

Romney has been a weak, ineffective candidate during his entire 20 years of campaigning, even his single term in office was won with less than 50%, and he was rejected for reelection, and with 34% approval.
Romney lost to Jimmy Carter on the verge of a depression, all the BS in the world can't change the facts of 20 years, Romney is a crummy candidate.

Polls indicated that Romney was going to win the election. The economy is close to Great Depression era conditions, and unemployment is almost as high as when Obama entered office. Economic conditions became so dire after Obama took office it prompted the rise of an entire new movement, the Tea Party.
Presidents rarely win reelection when the economy is in the tank.
So how did Romney lose a race that numerous reputable polls and pundits predicted would be an easy win, based on historical patterns?
