POLITICAL SUICIDE, ANYONE? (IT WAS NOT THE HISPANIC VOTE THAT DEFEATED ROMNEY)
Powerline ^ | 11/24/2012 | PAUL MIRENGOFF

Posted on 11/24/2012 8:53:48 AM PST by SeekAndFind

In an article referenced by Scott earlier today, Byron York shows that Mitt Romney did not lose the election because of his failure to win the Hispanic vote. Romnwy would have lost in Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin, Iowa, and New Hampshire even if he had gained a large portion of the Hispanic votes in these key battleground states.

York also demonstrates that, as we have argued, Hispanics are not a natural Republican constituency. If anything, they are natural Democrats for reasons unrelated to the immigration issue. Exit poll information suggests that Hispanics based their votes on a number of issues beyond illegal immigration, and those issues favored Democrats. A majority of Hispanics who voted this Election Day favored keeping Obamacare, higher taxes for higher earners, and (by 2 to 1) keeping abortion legal.

This brings me to the question of immigration reform. Such legislation is best evaluated on its merits, rather than on its politics. However, to the extent Republican legislators undertake a political analysis, it should weigh heavily against a vote for any package that provides a path to citizenship for illegal aliens, including the children of those who are here illegally.

The Hispanic vote wasn’t decisive in states like Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin, Iowa and New Hampshire because, although it favored Obama big-time, it wasn’t a large portion of the vote. The kind of immigration reform pushed by Democrats would tend to change this.

Moreover, because Hispanics favor Democratic positions on a wide range of big issues having nothing to do with immigration, supporting liberal immigration reform will not win many Hispanic votes. Given these realities, I see no political case, from a Republican point of view, for supporting a path to citizenship for illegal aliens. To contrary, supporting such reform looks something like an act of political suicide.

RE: Romney failed to go for the knockout in the next two debates

OK, what were the knockout punches Romney failed to deliver?

If just one in five people who voted for Palin/McCain would have made the effort to recruit a new conservative voter instead of just griping to friends, Romney could have won by over 12 MILLION votes!

Short version: Republicans don’t fight. Who wants to elect a loser? When I was a kid I was short, fat, near-sighted, clumsy, and Jewish in a virulently anti-Semitic town. Gangs of thugs would line-up to beat me on the way home from school. My nose was usually broken and my eyes blackened. I was left unconscious by the side of the road after being beaten. My dad had a simple answer: fight back even if you lose. No bully wants a bloody nose or a black eye. So I did. And the beatings stopped. Cold. I got a reputation as a crazy kid who wouldn’t back-down from a fight no matter the size of the opponent.

Hence the idiocy of GW Bush, in my eyes.

Why would a conservative flood the nation with illegal aliens for 8 years solid, when it was readily apparent to anyone with a brain that those flooding the borders were natural entrenched Democrat Party voters by and large.

Now when you consider GW Bush was just a socialist light NWO one-worlder globalist, then his flooding the USA with illegal immigrants for 8 years straight makes more sense.

The fix is in. We have been sold out by BOTH parties. We have no representation in government. The power above the apparent power runs everything. After Obama, Jed Bush will get his turn to push us further into socialism.

The fix is in. We just have the illusion of Democracy.

An EXCELLENT analysis. It was a fatal error. Continuing the boxing analogy, in a championship boxing match the champ has a natural edge and if you’re the challenger you cannot rely on the judges to give you a win by decision. You have to produce an overwhelmingly convincing win — either by a dominant round by round victory, a KO or TKO. If the match is close and goes to the judges’ scorecards, the champ is going to get the “win”. That is how it nearly always works.

The only things I would add to your analysis would be that (1) Obama was able to exploit the fortuitious timing of superstorm Sandy, (2) Team Obama clearly cooked the economic numbers in their favor in the critical months leading up to the election, and (3) as expected, the MSM propagand machine continued supporting Obama with favorable coverage.

I’m not against those that are American first. I simply said that I am not about to pander to them. If they feel that ethnicity, country of origin, etc. is more important and that I have to pander to that, then they have another think coming.

Our appeals should be limited to principles and ideas, not ethnicity or heritage other than this country.

Well, if one is to believe any of the polls that came out in the next couple of weeks after the first debate, then, Romney was definitely ahead in the better known polls, like Rasmussen and Gallup.

I still maintain that, Romney could have won if he had gone for the knockout after the first debate.

We can not wait for 2014 and 2016 to regroup and figure out new strategies. By then it will be too late. The Marxist/Muslim usurper will have completed his planned distruction of America.

That’s what people fail to understand.

Col Allen West; “I don’t want to see America become like Zimbabwe where people don’t trust their electoral process. If we cannot trust the integrity of the voting system then we are no longer a free republic.

Col West has opened the door.
It’s now up to We The People.

Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.

.
Polls indicated that Romney was going to win the election. The economy is close to Great Depression era conditions, and unemployment is almost as high as when Obama entered office. Economic conditions became so dire after Obama took office it prompted the rise of an entire new movement, the Tea Party.
Presidents rarely win reelection when the economy is in the tank.
So how did Romney lose a race that numerous reputable polls and pundits predicted would be an easy win, based on historical patterns?
Massive voter fraud.

There are massive reports of criminal activity
(not mischief, not shenanigans, as many term the fraud- but CRIMINAL ACTIVITY) going on all over the U.S during the presidential election.
Reports of machines changing votes from Romney to Obama, eyewitness reports of Republican poll watchers who observed busloads of non-English speaking Somalians in Ohio being instructed to vote Obama- the list is endless.

http://www.ObamaVoterFraud.com/

Romney lost because of this, not any other reason.
Nobody could have won against the fraud planned and perpetrated by the Obama Machine.

The evidence is overwhelming!

The real reason Obama won was because the number of conservatives stayed home or voted 3rd party was sufficient to let Obama steal the election through voter fraud. The election was stolen, but it may not have been stolen if the GOP had run a conservative candidate that excited the conservative base, rather than yet another socialist light who caused the base to come out in weak numbers.

It was McLame all over again. The GOP never learn. Or rather, they play their role perfectly in these elections “for show” while the power above the apparent power calls the shots and dictates terms.

We have been sold out by both parties. The fix is in.

Thank you for sharing. This is a great story of adversity and the lesson that I take is just make it very unpleasant for someone to abuse you. Winning, in these situations, is just getting them off your back so you can get back to doing your job in peace.

At the risk of stating the obvious, the Democrat Party has moved much further left but the Republcans have also shifted to the left. We are no longer a right of center country, at least for now.

However, the impending economic calamity looming before us and the widespread pain it will cause will likely result in a major reorientation of everyone’s thinking. Our economic situation is simply unsustainable and it will have political repercussions when the system collapses and is no longer able to support government largesse that the masses have become accustomed to. Greece is like watching a movie trailer for the coming US chaos. The grand illusion of printing prosperity will soon be over.

That is true about absentee and early voting, but, I would also throw in the “get out the vote” effort that was unmatched by the Romney team.

Obama and the democrats wanted to get the early voters to the polls before they could change their minds after the debates, and, of course, they put out a good effort to get those people to vote early.

What I fail to see in any of the post-mortem debates/discussions, is any real good suggestions for the future campaigns, and for the selection of good candidates who will show up to fight dirty when needed, and that can match that liberals’ campaign style. Being the “nice party” or the “nice candidate”, isn’t going to win us any battles when the enemy comes out with their dirty weapons.

It’s a tired cliche, but, let’s stop being “Mr Nice Guy”. We have the ideas and the logic behind our intentions, but, we also need to make sure that, dirty tricks can’t continue winning and we just continue complaining about the liberal bias in the media. We need new ideas, and I don’t see anyone proposing any. The only ideas I’ve seen, are losers, like, we need to be more like them and be more flexible in our positions. That would just turn us into a division of the democratic party, so, why even try?

The Constitution does not provide for respect paid to any group or individual who pays no respect for loyalty to the U.S.

I didn’t say anything about the GOP demonizing anyone. That kind of inflammatory language is geared to induce guilt for having a sovereign country.

If the Hispanics were here first or not, we have a country and they can either respect it or not.

Even the European countries protect their respective languages, borders and culture, and look at how overrun they are.

No. Every immigrant who came through NYC until the 1970s respected We the people- our borders, language and culture.

There is no excuse not to continue doing so. It is seditious not to do so.

The "winner take all" apportionment of electoral votes, especially in states with majority Republican congressional majorities, is an invitation to mob rule and vote fraud.

If all the swing states apportioned their electoral votes by congressional district, plus two statewide for the senators, there would be much less incentive for vote fraud, and there would be fewer Democrat presidents.

The big cities would have an incentive to encourage their inhabitants to rise to the level of civilized humans.

This would actually be closer to a "republican form of government", which the Constitution guarantees to every state.
